Please help!
My blackberry 9930 have been frustrating since I got it about 6mths ago. It's from one problem to another. RIM really needs to do something about this. To say it's frustrating is an understatement.
My latest problem is that I am unable to send SMS. I keep getting a red cross and Call barred reply. I am able to receive SMS as well as make and receive phone calls.
I really need a fix as it seems I can't find anyone with similar issue and a SOLUTION

Call Barred means that the device was reported as missing or stolen to your carrier.
This forum isn't associated with RIM or any carriers.

Njblackberry, thanks for your response but as I said I can do everything on my phone except send SMS. When I put in my sim into another phone, I was able to send SMS but was in my blackberry device, instead of the delivery (d on aa tick) icon after sms is sent, I see a red cross by the text and call barred printed in red under the text. Does that give a clearer pictures?

Perhaps it has an IT Policy on it which needs to be removed.

The other issue may be the fact that this is a primarily CDMA device. The user is on MTN Nigeria, which is GSM-based. However, for several years, there has been a large trend in the wealthier parts of west Africa to buy unlocked CDMA/GSM BlackBerry devices to differentiate oneself from the crowd, but then of course the provisioning and service book issues come up. In this case, I would imagine that the OP needs to get into the PST programming menu of the device to set up the NAM to match their number on their SIM card, and also check the SMS service centre settings in the device. Sometimes, the settings won't transfer properly from the SIM card.
