Default Router/charge??

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I'm starting this anew as I think my last thread wasn't very clear.

I see from my call charges that I ve been charged for using the 'net.

I was under the impression that if you view the 'net via your own router there should be no charge for that?? I ve done it via my nokia N95 without ill effects. Is this not so?

(by the way, to the member who asked me if I'm aware I get charged for texting, yes thanks, I am)

The phone is on a virgin payg sim.

TIA

David

ps I would say that I'm not aware of having viewed the internet anyway but well say that's not relevant for the moment.

If you were being charged, you weren't using your router.

Had a word with nice lady at virgin.

She agreed to give me 10 free texts.

I ve disabled "data collection" at my end and she has (apparently) at her end(can always be reversed should I need to), to save any possibilty of this happening again. Though, why it should suddenly occur after 1 +year of use I really don't know.

I still think I should be able to browse the web via my router .....for free.....but, wey hey, that's technology.

Thanks anyway.

I would say, I sued my Nokia N95 for 3/4 years browing the web and sending emails (though I never really worked out WHY/HOW it sent them) via my wifi (roiuter).

The Blackberry is a cosmically better tool for texting but we appear to have an enigma over call charges.

(about a year ago the nokia /e mail/yahoo acount went belly up. Just stopped working anymore .)

Your BB will use data, even with data collection off, unless you also turn data services off when not connected to wifi. Turning off data services (network settings/data services) will only allow your device to connect to BIS/internet through wifi.
