Default Making and receiving calls/texts.

I apologise for the silly question but it's my first blackberry and I've searched absolutely everywhere for an answer.
It took me a few days to realise I can't send or receive calls or texts without having to turn on mobile data. To me that sounds very strange because I've never had to do that with any other phone.
Is it possible to send/receive texts and calls without having to turn the data on? Thanks in advance.

Default Re: Making and receiving calls/texts.

The function on most smart phones including blackberry require the "mobile network" to be on to place calls and do any texting.

Reality is the phone's radio is off until your turn on the function. Some phones also wont work for any WIFI if not on. some of it is controlled by the carrier
