I know this may be old news but I'm a BB newbie and not sure how to view certain web pages with Java scripts... Is this possible? Where does one download the java program? Finally, is it necessary to download the software on my PC first?

Open the browser, click the track wheel and select options. Then click on browser configuration. Scroll down and check the box next to support java script. No downloads needed.
