Default sms messages on 8700c Cingular

Please Login to Remove!

ok, i searched and have found NOTHING relating to this, at least i don't think so...

i just converted to the 8700c from a Treo 650 (i HATED that phone) and the people with Cingular CS cannot answer my question, or figure out my SMS...

i have the Blackberry unlimited plan through Cingular ($44.99/month) and i was told at first that it didn't cover SMS messages, only email and the internet browser... so I cancelled the Blackberry unlimited before i even received the phone in the mail... then i get my phone, and the browsers did not show up on the home screen... so i called again, and they said that the media bundle didn't cover anything for the blackberry except test messages... so i then changed my plan BACK to the blackberry unlimited, because the rep i spoke with said it covered EVERYTHING that had to do with data, and text messages were included...

well now, i try to send a text message and it says its sent, but the other person NEVER receives it... then i had a friend text me three times, and i still haven't gotten them...

anyone have any ideas??

sorry for such a long post for my first but, i'm sure other people understand!

What are you using to SMS? The phone number associated with your BB or are you using the mail address?

Here's the quick answer:

- SMS requires an SMS plan from Cingular (1000 for $9.99/month is what I have)
- e-mail/web/data requires a Blackberry Data Plan from Cingular

Bottom line, if you want e-mail, data, internet, AND text messages, you need both a Blackberry Data Plan AND an SMS package of sorts. Media Net plans don't do anything for you.

There IS a way to skirt the system by sending e-mails to "phone number at somethingorother.net" and having texts sent via data. However, I've never found that to be worth the trouble to save a couple bucks a month. I don't have the threads handy that allow you to do this, but there IS a way.

Hope that clarifies.

You definately do NOT need a SMS plan to send SMS from a Cingular Blackberry. You have to have a BB Data Plan to use email/web/data as you said. I do NOT have an SMS plan and I send SMS's regularly (10 cents a pop to send or receive).

SMS can be turned off for a phone (BB or other type of phone), or the settings can be messed up. Calling Cingular support seems like the next step.

yeah, thats what i'm about to do, i just realized that you only pay $10 for 1000 texts with the pay per text thing... vice paying the $10 for a medianet plan (includes 400 messages)... ding ding ding, my lightbulb just went off...

thanks for the info fellas!!!

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

At 10 cents a message, you only get 100 messages for 10 dollars, not 1000. And to send them with out a plan, you need to make sure they have the pay per use feature on your account.

Whats the difference between a media net bundle package from cingular, and a blackberry data plan? It says for $29.99 you can get a media net bundle that includes 1000 text messages and unlimited media net, which it says includes wireless e-mail, internet browsing, and download usage. So isnt that the same thing?

Blackberries require blackberry specific data plans. The media net would only allow you access to the wap browser and you wouldn't be able to get any email.

You know what have been doing, I got verichat and I am using aim to send sms. On my comp at home in my buddy list I put +1 and then area code and number. On my BlackBerry in verichat you can send those numbers text messages and when they respond its an instant message. But they are using sms. But they prob don't have a data plan. So basically to sum everything up you can send sms to phones through aim, in verichat you can send sms to cell phones.
