7130 g/e in India
Please Login to Remove!
i m planning to visit canada in the nxt month. rite now i m having bb 7100g.
now my problem is that only 4 bb's [ 7200 series and 7100g , 8700g ] are available in india till now.
i want to buy another bb in addtion 2 7100g. just wanted to enquire whether i can buy the phone from canada and use it here in india. whether my carrier [AIRTEL] would b able to provide the wirless networking for that. or if he is unable to provide it , can i use it like a normal phone i.e without internet and email ? in that case i can use my 7100g for networking and internet , mail as i would b possessing that also.
and also , which one is good ? - 7130g or 7130e ! r they on cdma network or gsm ?
Regards,
BBThumbHealer.

Hi, you can buy a phone from Canada and use it in India, but make sure it supports the GSM frequencies in india. If you are getting a GSM BB, most of them are quad band so you are good to go. One thing you wanna make sure is to get an unlocked one.
Airtel India is a GSM provider so you ca only use 7130g with them. 7130e is CDMA and as far as i know there are no CDMA BB providers in India yet.
I am currently using an unlocked 7130c in the US (on cingular) and have a question for you: I will be coming back to India next week and need to know what BB plan you have for Airtel, how much it costs and what features are included.
Thanks.

In Canada, there is really one one company that sells BlackBerry Devices on GSM, and that's Rogers, so I would check out their site.
7130g will be $499.99 without a contract, and the device will still be locked to Rogers, so you have to unlock it and then you will be able to use it on AIRTEL.
Good luck.

hey steven,
i have to shell out Rs. 1300 p.m for my facility of Internet , Email ............ and they charge u for the calls u make.
i.e ur total cost would be :
Rs. 1300 + charges of calls made by u.
if u call when u r in india to indian states , u r charged rs 2/min and for local calls rs 1/min.
Remember i m talkin in the indian currency.
remain in touch when u come to india by the means of this forum.
BB customer care[AIRTEL] in India helpline no. is : +919871428080.
Regards,
BBThumbHealer.

Hey BBThumbHealer,
Is that unlimited plan for Rs. 1300/month? Can I just walk into an Airtel store and get the plan?
You asked for a comparison between 7130g and 7130e and to sum it up, 7130e is CDMA (you cannot use it in India) and 7130g is GSM (which u can use in India).
If you are just thinking of getting a 7130g from Rogers, you are looking at quite an expensive phone and it will still be locked.

i was surfing the blackberry.com & made the comparison b/w 7100g and 7100t. both of them specifications are same but their looks are different.
i want a nice BB from the 7100 series . my range shud b 100$ - 200$.
shud i go for an i-mate or O2 or treo other than BB ? but let me tell u that i m mad abt BB.
which devices of BB are available in canada of 7100 series or the second option 8700 series . What are their prices.
Help Me out to take the decision........................
Regards,
BBThumbHealer.

hey BBThumbHealer,
Thanks for all the information and the Airtel support number. I will be staying in Delhi for about 6 months. Will be located in Noida near the Wipro site.
If you want to stay under $200, I suggest you get the unlocked 7100t that is on sale for $99 at tigerdirect.com. You can get that phone and upgrade it os 4.1. But this is essentially the same device as you 7100g, so I am not sure why you want to go to a 7100t??
If you want to upgrade to a 7130c or 7130g you are looking at around $300 + $30 for unlocking. I got my 7130c from ebay for $260 shipped and since I am using it with Cingular I didn't get it unlocked.

Steven,
i would also like to ask u abt the prices of 8700r . i basically want to go for a BB powered by the intel processor and now i have agreed to shell out $300 for the BB finally but it should b available in canada.
do u suggest me to go for an i-mate, O2 or Treo other than the BB ?
the 7100t u r talkin abt is second hand ? and also i m not interested in that one now.
r u comin to delhi for some training purposes ? and u can easily get that plan [1300 + ] in delhi.
i recommend u to enquire abt the other plans also.
Regards,
BBThumbHealer.

Are you going to stay in Canada for a little bit? Or do you have any relatives living there? If you do, you can easily get 7130c shipped to you from the US for around 300 US dollars. There are a lot of sellers on Ebay willing to ship to Canada for that price. As for the 8700R ebay prices range from 270 - 370 shipped. Check it out.
If you were to get it from Rogers without a service plan, it will cost considerably more and the phone will still be locked. Keep in mind that 8700x are hard, if not impossible to unlock.
Yeah, I will be in Delhi for training some people we have hired for the India support center.

Just and update for anyone travelling to India and want to use the BB over there. You can get unlimited plan (BIS) from Airtel for Rs. 799/month. There is no high speed EDGE connectivity but the speed is decent and push works perfect for the emails.
-enjoy!
