Default Running BES 4.1 and Exchange 2003 on same box

Please Login to Remove!

Can it be done? The only caution I saw in the upgrade guide was to avoid having Outlook and BES on the same box. It's just a test machine so performance is not an issue.

TIA

theres a BB KB Article (search on this forum) that suggests its possible for upto 15 users. If it truly is a test box then it should be ok, althought I'd always recommend dropping BES onto a separate box for any kind of production evironment...

It's not advised. Exchange does not like to have a MAPI client installed on the same server.

Thanks! It is definitely a test server, both for Exchange and BES. I will try to find that KB article.

I have not seen any issue with this case.

I have a Exchange server 2003 and Bes server 4.1.0 installed within one box.

It works fine.

Yup, I've seen it done to with no issues. As someone mentioned before, Exchange doesnt like MAPI being installed on the Exchange server, but you said its a test box... go ahead and play

Unsupported, problematic for some and fine for others - I wouldn't, even in a test environment because if you're testing something you surely want to know the affects, performance, etc of the solution in a real life environment (in which instance I'm sure you wouldn't run Exchange and BES on the same machine).

Why not VMWare it instead??

Thanks BBAdmin. I don't have a VMWare environment any more for the test--it all had to go to production (non-BES stuff).

The old test environment was set up as a separate BES and Exchange server but it was also in an Exchange org and sub-network very distant from our real one, we are using this environment to answer some of the final questions that we couldn't get from the separate org.

Uhm. Why does BES work on SBS then, or is that the exception to the rule?
