Default AD Migration Planning

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I have a Win2k server running BES, with Exchange 5.5. I am new to BES, so as I poke around looking at my server, I notice things that could potentially be a problem, like this one.
I am upgrading to an AD environment, with Exchange 2003.

My current BES server has Exchange 5.5 management tools on it, so I can see my exchange server. I would assume, I need to upgrade this to Exchange 2003, so my BES see's AD right?

DOes this require me to have an additional licenses for exchange users?

The migration will be here before you know it, so I need to get all my ducks in a row.

My plans for the migration are

Upgrade NT 4 to Win2k3
ADC to Exchange 5.5
Migrate users to Ex2003

Then work with BES....

Licensing questions are best answered by MS.

As a general rule, you will probably need to purchase new CALs for both Windows and Exchange.

And yes, after with upgrade to E2K3, you will need to install MAPI.dll and CDO.dll from the E2K3 server on the BES.

Is there someplace I can find info about the MAPI.dll and CDO.dll....so I know what this means?

MAPI.dll and CDO.dll are Exchange components that BES requires to communicate with Exchange. In general, we just copy them from the Exchange server and register them with regsrv.exe.
