Hi Guys,

Any help would be appreciated here.. i just upgraded my pearl to the 4.2 software (August 2006) - i am working off a BES server 4.1.

The keypad on all my pearls in the office are not functioning from the welcome screen. If you go into address book or sure the keys work away but not at welcome screen.

ARRRRGHHHHH!!! Help!!

Uh...your Pearl didn't come preloaded with 4.2? First I've heard of that.

Also interesting to hear about a Pearl that was purchased a month before it actually came out...

Thumbs down

No no - the software is for (August 2006) and yes the siftware was not preloaded on it...

Can you help? Or are you trying to pick holes in my question.

yeah sometimes i don't get the mods questioning..

there is an option somewhere on the blackberry, i believe in the phone settings to enable or disable the phone keys from the home screen.

there are two scenarios

1- phone keys work from home screen and you can dial by name or number and it opens up the phone screen.

2- this is disabled and the buttons on the keypad are linked to actual shortcuts like "compose mail" and others.

I personally prefer the phone buttons over shortcuts... but i think that is where your going with it.

check deep in the phone options.

And I don't get "experienced" users giving out incorrect information.

The Suretype style BlackBerry do not have the ability to disable dialing from the home screen. There is no way - at all - to disable dialing from home screen. Option 2 does not exist on Suretype style BlackBerrys.

Krad - you REALLY don't like it here, do you.

And don't bother to start a debate.

Wow. Krad questioning a Mod? Shocking.

Chrisho, I'm simply seeking clarity. You mistake brevity for lack of candor. Considering a Pearl won't run anything other than 4.2, you can understand why it doesn't make sense to me.

A recommendation would be to wipe the device completely (do a quick search for "javaloader"), download the latest version of OS, delete the Vendor.xml file from your PC, and reload the OS.

I never said i knew everything... i just metioned that i thought there was a setting in the phone.

At this present time, this forum and from what i have seen seems to be the most concentrated place for new users, developers, etc in the blackberry world.

When I had my 7100, this forum was golden. It was a super welcoming place.

Now it feels like the place is run by gangsters.

What is shocking and should really open your eyes is when brand new users start a thread like....

"new bb user... please go easy"
"new bb user... need help don't flame me"

I used to be a very involved user on this forum. The only reason i come on now is to check the aftermarket section and the rim software to see if a new firmware or software was released. Every few days or so i will come to the 8100 forum to see if there is some news... and sometimes even try and help out a new user....

I also help out with some free downloads... I won't mention what or where, because i don't need to advertise.

It is only a matter of time though before users wise up and other forums advertise better...

I have seen a few forums dwindle down to a dozen users...

Chrisho, were you able to solve your issue? Can you lend some insight as to what was loaded onto the Pearl when you got it? And/Or where you got the Pearl's from? Are you sure it wasn't just a newer version of 4.2 that you were loading?
