Hello, I currently have a 8700g and am thinking of 'upgrading' it to either Pearl or 8800.

Currently located in Mauritius, with Cellplus provider, can I buy a device in a different country and use the device back home? Is it practically done or am I stuck with whatever the inventory (8700!) my local provider currently has?

Please advise. Thanks.

As long as the device is unlocked, you can use it with any carrier you want, provided they operate on the same type of GSM network.

If it is not unlocked you can get it unlocked by Adam @ GSM PhoneSource - When Only The Best Will Do. I have used him numerous times to unlock Blackberries. Always good, fast service.
