Depends on what form factor you want. Do you need a camera (Pearl) or GPS (8800)? Suretype is an acquired taste. You either love it or hate it. I used it, but prefer the full keyboard.

If you are staying with ATT I'd actually pick up the curve. But if not, I'd probably go with the 8800, only because I prefer having a full keyboard.

The main reason I chose the Pearl was its size. I looked at Treos, and they looked like tanks, imo. Looked at Blackjacks, Microsoft hater, so that was ruled out (and the guy in the ATT store I deal with all the time didn't recommend it).

The Pearl suited all my needs- organizer, great address book, email, multimedia capabilities, then, what was very important to me- most compact. I like to keep my phone in my pocket, whether at work, or just hanging out. So it was the Pearl for me. I never liked holsters.

The curve is nearly as small as the PEarl. I would get the curve. (but that's just me). I can't use non-QWERTY phones.

I considered the Pearl, Curve and 8800(or 8820) before I decided on the Curve. The Curve is the best blend of features and form factor(IMO). It looks cool too since that matters to you. Of course, I don't care about WiFi or GPS.

I forgot to add the Curve has better Bluetooth functionality than the Pearl. It supports a2dp and it even allows my Pioneer D3 to control the playback functions of the media player on the Curve. Awesome phone man.

I do not know about the 8820.

Pearl - Is a phone with a blackberry

8800 - Blackberry with a phone.

Depends what you need. If you will not e-mail very much, then you will want the pearl.
