New user...is the lock carriers put in the 7520 on the SIM card or in the phone it self? If I purchased a locked 7520 on line and put an i530 card in it from a functioning phone, would I need to unlock the phone first to work with my carrier (Nextel)? How can I tell if a phone is locked?
You can't use the SIM from a Nextel phone in a Nextel BlackBerry. It has nothing ot do with the device being locked or not. You will have to have Nextel move your services to the SIM that came with the BlackBerry. If it did not come with the BlackBerry, you will need to get a new one from Nextel.
I understand what you are saying. Any idea why 3-4 others in my office were successful with this switch without Nextel intervention?
Maybe their i530's came with a different SIM card. I did notice this morning when comparing notes and phones with one of them that I have a slightly newer version of the BB OS. Mine is 4.02, their's is 4.01 or 4.00. Could this be an issue as well?
i was able to use my i710 sim card in my blackberry with no problem but i did notice when i tried to sell it to a guy with a i530 and it kept saying please insert simcard when ever he stuck his sim card in.....
