I apologize if this has been answered somewhere, but I did some searches and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. What I want to do is set up my Pearl so that I need to enter a code in order to turn it on. That's it. I don't want a keyboard lock or a timed lock that password protects my pearl after a certain number of minutes.

My old Motorola cell phone had this feature, and it seems like it should be a very basic requirement on all mobile devices, but I can't figure out how to do it with my Pearl.

I don't believe this is available (at least natively) on the BlackBerry. The most you have is the lock after the device is on, but I don't believe there is a lock prior to turning the phone on.

I doubt that feature is available. Keyboard lock is the way to go

you can block since start you blackberry.

when the blackberry starts ask for password to start to use, you can configure what you wont block.

for example, i have the block feature activate, this when i plugged in a usb again ask for the password too.

but a password for turn on the device, never hear about this, exist some like that?

i'm with ya. i'd love this feature.

password request when you power up the phone, but not any other time.

for me, i'd like to lock the keyboard... but not have to unlock with a password. i just want to prevent keys from being hit while in transport. having to punch in my password every time i want to make a call is a pain.

why... you can configure this, while the keyboard is locked you can make phone calls...

go to options/security settings/General Settings and there active the option "allow Outgoing calls while locked"

later, when the handled it's blocked, also you can make phone calls... try yourself.
