What does the upper left corner say? If in connections there's a yellow symbol and there's no WiFi logo or a network name in the home screen, then you're not using WiFi.

Sorry, I guess I'm just used to my current theme. You're using gprs. If WiFi is grey, then it's not available.

on Manage Connections, if your Wi-Fi has a yellow button next to it, that only means that you're not FULLY connecting to your wireless router and you are mos def on GPRS/EDGE! You would also be able to see that your Wi-Fi logo on the top right is greyed out. That's the same as a yellow button icon from Manage Connections.

before you re-do everything again though, go to Options first and go to Mobile Network; make sure to set Connection Preference to "Wi-Fi Preferred"

Everytime you're hooked up to Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi logo is not greyed out), you're sure all your BlackBerry services will go through Wi-Fi, saves you charges like me.. how to check? go to Manage Connections and click on Services Status: you should see

BIS Connection: Wi-Fi
BES Connection: Wi-Fi

it says its connected to my home router, tho. So why isnt it using wifi instead?

if i disable mobile network, and then browse the internet it works. So im assuming its then going thru my wifi via my home router? yet the icon stays grey.

the icon stays grey because your not connected to the BlackBerry service! i can't be certain if your browsing via Wi-Fi if you leave your Mobile Network connection on (I guess your GPRS is gprs).. but it'll mos def go through Wi-Fi, delete your APN settings to be sure you're not using data off your carrier.
