I just received my BB Curve 8310, I am an AT&T subscriber. I do not have any "MEDIAnet" services, just your basic sms service right now. What do I need to actually use Google maps? Is there any of the cool stuff that I can do until I get my MEDIAnet package from AT&T? Thanks, dave v.

Don't get the MediaNet service from AT&T... that's the wrong plan for a BlackBerry.

You want a BlackBerry Data Plan... not a MediaNet plan.

Once you have the BlackBerry Data Plan, you'll be able to use Google Maps, Web browsing, Email, Instant Messaging, etc.

MediaNet = Wrong.
BlackBerry Data Plan = Correct.

To use the GPS function do I need the BB Data Plan? Also, I read another new guys post about being able to use sms outbound, but trouble receiving inbound. Have you heard anything about that (I do have an existing unlimited text plan)? And one more, I order the data plan through AT&T, right?

You'll need a BlackBerry Data Plan to use GPS navigation/mapping software such as Telenav, BB Maps, Google Maps, etc.
Without a data plan, all you'll get is longitude and latitude data... no maps.

Yes, if AT&T is your wireless carrier... you'd call them to add the BlackBerry Data Plan.
