The primary reason they want to know is probably money. If Telenav obtains a customer on say AT&T, then AT&T will be making $ each month of the subscription. They may pay Telenav part of that charge, as well as bonuses if certain subscriber levels are reached.

The "commissions" make sense... since they use tons of data, it forces people to be on the highest data plan. But why wouldn't it be available for all service providers? Right now, they don't show any Canadian ones for Telenav and others. They have a form to let you know when it's going to be available. Since it works regardless of service providers, wouldn't Telenav (and others) want the business?
