well the only one that would offer GPS (without an external puck) is VZnav. All others will not give you GPS. you can use and delete these apps without any problem at all.

Sith, your post is a bit misleading.

Not sure what you mean, won't give you GPS. GPS is built into the device itself. The apps just add the mapping features.

On the Verizon 8830, the GPS is blocked (I think VZW still blocks anyway) so you need VZNav, I think

On other devices with the GPS feature enabld, both GoogleMaps and BBMaps work. The main difference is VZNav (and TeleNav for ATT) gives voice command and auto-reroute whereas BBMaps and GoogleMaps offer basic map and route info. GoogleMaps also provide traffic info. Not sure if VZNav or Telenav do that.

To use any of the map features, you must have a BB dataplan however.

If you don't subscribe to VZNavigator, then you'll need a bluetooth GPS puck, like the Keychain 2000. I like GoogleMaps for its great satellite photo views if I'm exploring an area. Great maps too. If you want a free navigation app that gives voice directions and auto-recalculates your route, check out Nav4All. Very easy to use without having to stare at a map while driving.
Also, GoogleMaps does not refresh the GPS position automatically, so you'll still need BBMaps running in the background (if you don't use VZNavigator).

my post is dead on. The ONLY app that gives GPS on a VZW device is VZnav (unless you have an external puck). What was misleading about that?

I think he skimmed over your post and assumed he knew what it said.

I'm not with Verizon so I can't really comment on VZ Nav but I suspect it's the only truly useful option (of the 3 mentioned) for in-car navigation. I certainly know that BB Maps and Google Maps don't offer voice prompts. If you drive around relying on either of the latter two please let me know so I can stay off the road while you're trying to drive and read the BB screen at the same time...
