Actually it makes good sense.
The Pearl is creating a lot of attention & bringing in buyers that would not even consider a BlackBerry.
This is good for everyone especially RIM as the additional revenue is important.
The mainstream buyer does not have a clue what 3G is & does not care. What they care about is Style Size Camera & Music.
This is a milestone product for RIM & a home run! Give them a chance to continue to refine the Pearl as they have other BB's and chances are good that 3G will be included.
The Pearl is brilliant!
Cheers...

Any similar experiences from other people who placed orders through the Premier site?

I ordered through cingular.com on Froday afternoon and, according to FedEx, it shipped yesterday morning and should be delivered on Tuesday. Can't wait...

Go to the regular cingular site and do a search for "Order Status" That will give you a link where you can pull up the status of your order and get your tracking number.

Yes the battery cover is loose, therefore the phone is not perfect & yet most phones are a compromize anyway. I would much rather have it be something as simple & easy to shim like a batt door as compared to a larger issue.

You may be right about the success of the Pearl, but I doubt the posters on this site are "mainstream" buyers. So my original question remains about why people are so excited about a repacked 7130c?

Well, I can only speak for myself. For me, it is basically this: the 7130 does not have a camera, cannot send MMS, no MicroSD card, plus the Pearl's design is very nice and slim. So that sums it up for me and I am coming from a 8700c.

Sorry, I meant I cannot take a picture and send it MMS. I am not saying that the 7130 is bad, I think it is a great device. I was just explaining my reasons for wanting the Pearl.
On my 8700, everytime I received a MMS, I'd have to go to a web link to see the picture.

I think the point is being missed here. I did not say the posters here are the mainstream buyers. It's obvious the mainstream buyers are those, as I mentioned previously, that are looking for sleek small, stylish phones. The buyers that have not had a BlackBerry or would even consider one until the advent of the Pearl.
That said, I'm not being critical of those preferences either, to each his/her own.
What I am saying is that the Pearl is the best thing to happen to RIM in a long time which trickles down and benefits all of us tech enthusiasts.
So there is indeed a lot to be excited about! Who cares about the details, the main point is the increased demand for the product, more customers, more revenue for RIM and more great products in the pipeline for us.
Cheers........

As a current 7130c owner who should be receiving his 8100c tomorrow...I can tell you that the 8100 represents a giant leap forward for RIM. The ability to have 2GB of music on this phone means that I don't have to take my blackberry and my nano to the gym...or on my commute. It means I can go out at night and not have an enormous brick in my pocket (7130c is small but stick it next to an 8100 and it might as well be my old 7290). It means I get all the functionality of the blackberry with all the style of my old Moto SLVR. All RIM owners should be excited...the functionality of our tried and true blackberry with the style that we've all been hoping for.

Good Job, Well Said....
That's the beauty of the current BlackBerry lineup. There is a model for everyone. For me, after trying Treo's and Moto Q, and having instability issues and other problems that were unacceptable to me, I was ready for something that I had not tried.
So I bought my first BlackBerry the 7130c. It was an incredible experience to use a smartphone that is so fast, stable, reliable and well built.
Based on this very positive experience I decided to purchase an 8700c to see what it was like and which was best for me. Again a very impressive machine just not to my liking. Which is not to imply that it's not as great as the 7130c.
Then along comes the Cingular Pearl. Here again, another opportunity to try another model with a different form factor. I am really excited about the Pearl ! Even after I bought one on Friday from Cingular and found out that it's a great device, just not for me. Which does not mean it's any lesser than the other models. Quite the contrary, I can see where people really like having the camera, small size form factor and media center for music. This is a world class smartphone. I knew upon making the decision to purchase one that it may or may not work for me. However having the opportunity to try one and have the experience was well worth the cost of admission. That's the same reason I purchased an 8700c and a 7130c was to get to know the BlackBerry platform and find out which one was best for me.
So in the final analysis, it turns out that the 7130c remains the BlackBerry which best suits my needs. I can now speak from personal experience with each model, 8700c, 7130c and 8100c that they are all top notch. It's simply a matter of personal preference as to which one suits you best. What we end up with is an array of very nice choices. This is far superior to the competition.
Cheers......
