Using the modified .alx file allows you to use extra carrier themes such as Vodafone, Orange, O2, etc...

I replace the BlackBerry .alx file with the new modified one or I will edit my own .alx file. I don't replace the vendor.xml file I delete it.

Hi,

Quick question. What exactly does the vendor.xml file do? Because in my haste to get the new OS installed, I opened DM before deleting it.

The update seemed to go fine, however, and options/about now show v.4.2.0.64. Any reason to try again after deleting the vendor.xml file? Thanks for any insight.

I followed the steps above but I got the 507(death) screen so I think I bricked it. Thankfully I have a reserve phone and I just contacted T-mobile and they are sending me replacment. But what went wrong ?

Bricking a BlackBerry? No. A 507 means there is no Operating System installed properly.

You just need to rerun the Application Loader and load the OS again.

No, but it didn't work. A 507 means no OS. So you have to reload it. Is your BB connected directly to your PC/laptop of via a hub?

Its connected to the USB port directly to my desktop. So you are saying all I need to do is reload the OS? But how can I do that if the desktop manager does not recognise any connected phone after the incident????

It will reload it anyway. Give it a shot. It can't "recognize" it without an OS, but it still can load the OS.

Quick question. If I decide to go back to my TMO release of this software, is it just a matter of doing a "restore" from Desktop Manager?

You can definitely roll back to your T-Mo OS if you like. Doing a restore from the desktop manager only restores the information on your BlackBerry from when you backed it up. It won't restore the original or previous OS.

I just downloaded the TMO software from T-Mobile's site. I assume I just run the .exe file and install it just like the O2 software, correct?
