Do I just add |102 to the end of it?

Thanks.

That will work just as well as long as you are on Cingular. I'm on TMobile so if I was doing it I would add |100. Removing all references to vendorID works too but adding your vendor code is a good way as well and prevents you from deleting something important.

Jibi's edited .alx files just have the vendorID references removed so that all themes are installed on all carriers.

Hmm... I just installed this... but nothing is "happening"? The install completed sucsessfully, but it is still on my old windows vista theme and looks no different - also, when I click media manager on the DS, it says it doesnt have 4.2?

Any help would be great.

Did you delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader?

If you didn't, delete the file and try it again.

Hey John!

I didn't do that the first time, but I did it this time...

But, I install it, but the screen just stays on the home screen during the install, it doesnt seem to actually be going on my device... :S

Edit: The download on the BB page is called Terminal Inalabrica Blackberry 8700g right?

How do I wipe? Will all of my downloaded programs/emails/texts/notes be gone?

That's the right download. Here are the steps:

Download and Install Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1

Download and install the OS package linked above.

Delete vendor.xml located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

Plug in BB. Open Desktop Manager. It should detect that you need an upgrade. If DM isn't detecting the BB go to the menu at the top and select 'connections' and then choose USB. It sounds like maybe the DM isn't finding the BB.

I wouldn't wipe. If you have other problems with your computer recognizing the BB then you'll have a dead unit.

does it matter that when I try and install the 4.2 handheld software it tells me to close DS?

Edit: Ughhh, its not working. It DOES connect but after I close the DS it just goes to the home screen - everything looks like its installing on the computer (it says sucsess, finish) but nothing happens on the BB.

Yes. Close Desktop Manager then install the 4.2 OS to the PC. Once the install is complete then delete the vendor.xml file in the location I specified above. Then plug in the BB and open DM again and the update should proceed.

There are lots of threads with instructions about doing the updates. Probably some in this one.

Also, the BB will appear to hang for up to 20 minutes with a spinning hourglass. It's not hung. It just takes that long to reboot after an update. Just let it go-DONT UNPLUG IT. The whole thing will take about 45 minutes.
