1. to upgrade you need to have a PC as the OS on this site ( which can be found here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...1-103-tmo.html ) is a .exe which means it a executable file and MAC cannot open them, as far as i know. so therefore you need to get a PC, either your own or borrow a friends for a hours or so.

2. To get the card working is the same with any other card. Put it in the phone lol. onces it in the phone we recommend that you format it just so i can be used. to format, go options> advanced> media card> menu button> format card

3. MAKE SURE you get a genuine scandisk card or if you go ebay make sure the seller has at 99.8% good selling, even that is like ummm whats going on, read the negative post on the member and see why. but make sure you get scan disk they are the best in memory card technology

hope this helps
Hi Cory,

You and and san fran helped me out awhile ago (late july early august). First of all thanks to the both of you. I was the guy with the mac computer that was trying to upgrade the BBOS so that it would support a 4 gig card. Got that and the bluetooth modem option to work until I upgraded to the 4.2.107 BBOS (or therabout as far as versions go). Although my media card is fine I've lost the ability to use my 8100 as a modem thru bluetooth. I would like to downgrade the BB software so that I can still use my media card and regain access to the bluetooth modem feature. I think the 103 version will work but I can not find it. Pleas help if you can. Thanks again to you and san fran. Best

Yes, I config'd that the other day, and am stoked about it! The speed is not lightning fast, but very "do-able", atleast several times faster than dial-up(is dial-up a word anymore?)

I am still semi-new to BB's but after reading this forum for several weeks and tweaking things here and there, I am 150 percent more knowledgeable now.

BTW, thanks everyone!

I just got an 8100 from T-Mobile yesterday, it came with 4.2.1.107 2.3.083. I also ordered a SanDisk 4gb Microsdhc card. So far, the phone has not recognized the card. However, when I try to mount the card on Win XP, using the card reader that came with the card, I get nothing. In fact, My Computer crashes. I am hoping this is just a bad card.

At the moment I am downgrading my OS to 4.2.1.101 to see if there is any difference.

I will keep posting with updates.

I got the exact same Sandisk card last Friday and it works perfectly with 4.2.1.107. I'd definitely say it's a bad card. They do come with a 5 year guarantee though

Downgrading did not work, the card is still not recognized. I'm going to get an exchange from SanDisk.

Default I HAVE and use, a 4GB SanDisk micro card in my 8100

I am a new 8100 owner. Before I 'knew' it couldn't be done, I bought a 4GB SanDisk card, since I wanted to use it for mp3's, and I have a lot of them. I went through the usual stuff, and found out that it worked fine! I can play my mp3's through the onboard speakers (which suck), and now am trying to get an adaptor and/or dongle to be able to use headphones (and in particular, the Motorola S9 unit I bought) to hear my music.
So to me, it's ludicrous to hear someone say it can't be done, since I'm doing it! My 8100 tells me I have actually 3.7GB available (that was before I loaded some photos and about 1GB of music).
So bottom line: it can be done; I've done it; I'm doing it, and no one can tell me it cannot be done.

There's a lesson there. Don't believe what everyone says until you know for yourself. And I just LOVE people who say, "Nah, it isn't possible!"
Oh yeah?? Don't tell my Blackberry that!
ALSO: I should mention I use AT&T as my carrier. 4GB IS doable, and maybe 8 or even 16, who knows?

dreamsmith, welcome to the forums,

You're new so I'll explain. When the 8100 first came out, the 2Gb wouldn't even work. An OS upgrade finally changed that a few months later. However, 2GB was the max that would work until another OS upgrade (4.2.1) came out. So, consider the age of the thread you are posting in before you come in and say people are "wrong." At the time of this thread 4.2.1 had just come out and nobody had tried the 4GB cards yet.

There are issues now with the 6 and 8 Gb cards not formatting properly in the BB. So (as of today, October 17th, 2007) the 6Gb cards will work only if formatted on the computer and then inserted to the BB. Also, I can't remember but it may be necessary to remove the card from the BB and plug into the computer any time you want to transfer files to it (I can't remember for sure.) However, for now the 6Gb cards are a "maybe."

Again, please consider the age of the thread and the posts in them when making your comments.

I purchased a 4GB Sandisk SD card from Amazon.com 2 weeks ago, and it works great. Recognized media size right away!! Purchased my pearl about a month ago.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry Pearl 8100: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

So can anyone confirm a 6g card working for sure without a hitch or is it just hearsay. Would love to get one. Heh

I got a new 4gb card today and it works fine. Just wanted to dispell any doubts I may have raised, it was just a bad card.

Default 8 GB SDHC card

Hi,

I have a pearl on AT&T. I am planning on buying a 8 gb SDHC. I have read here that people have gotten the 4 GB cards to work even though they aren't supposed to according to other sites.

Just to be certain is anyone successfully using an 8 GB card with their pearl?

Thanks!

Alex

It is according to the OS installed on the device. When you are able to upgrade to 4.5 OS, you will have the full 8gb working.
