Thats normal. If you do it from your work computer (or a computer connected to your work email system) it will automatically activate after the upgrade. Otherwise you need to call your IT dept for an activation password.

Default What changes from .94 to .96?

Is it worth updating. The only issue I seem to have is a java error that crashes Yahoo Messenger fairly often when I am in spotty signal areas.

Cingular/ATT 8100 with a TMobile Yahoo Service Book.

I, like many others, have upgraded from the .64 OS, and this version works flawlessly for me thus far.

I am with Vodafone Australia and they have not released this upgrade.

Can I upgrade my Pearl with this AT&T release?

I am not sure if there is a difference with the different releases of providers.

Yes, you can use this update. Just follow the instruction in the first post.

Default 1 problem

I did the upgrade and all is well except that now I can't access my phone book. Under options it shows I have 49 contacts but under personal or business nothing shows up

The upgrade was worth it for me, as I wasn't able to utilize the 2gb microsd card I just bought with the .46 OS. I'm having no noticeable problems now with the new OS. I see you're in Hawai`i too, I think I've seen your name on FH, I'm there also under the name svtlightning13.

I'm trying to update my OS, but I'm running into a bit of a problem...

I downloaded all the proper stuff, but once I connect my BB and open up Desktop Manager, it prompts me to update. I click "Next" and it says "Connecting to the device (JVM)..." and it just sits there, nothing else happens... It says my BB is connected, I can still use the menu on my BB while its connected. Is there something wrong?

Honestly I want to go back to the previous version of the desktop manager.
Because it made my life easier. I no longer have to fiddle with 3rd party programs when I transfer stuff. I set the resolution of my video, the bitrate of my mp3 programs, and when I drag them into my card, they are automatically converted. Now when I get a movie, all I do is drag it in there and the software automatically does the conversion and resizing. The old one was just crap and a generic program to simply copy it to the unit. I didn't even use it. I would put my phone in mass storage mode and just drag and drop using windows file manager since it was much faster that way.

My best reason for loving the new desktop program is ALL of my music is 192bits at the LEAST and 256bit at the highest. It doesn't make sense to have 256bit music on the pearl because you can't tell the difference, and it wastes space. So, now, everytime I transfer music they are auto converted to 160. AWESOME.

Thats why this version is so much better. The old one was USELESS as a software to handle media on the device.

LOL no ... its not. If you have high bitrate music, you should bring it down.

With the mass storage mode, to transfer music I had to:
a) Load up CDEX.
b) Convert the MP3s to 160bits and have them sent to a directory.
c) Copy the new mp3's using mass storage.

With the mass storage mode, to transfer video I had to:
a) Open a command prompt
b) Run the batch file, using mencoder to convert the video and resize.
c) Copy the new movies using mass storage.

With the new media manager, to transfer both music and video, now:
a) Open media manager.
b) Drag and drop media to my card.

How is using 3rd party programs for conversion THEN transferring to Pearl easier than just using one program to do everything? Doesn't make sense to me.

Anyone have the same problem I did with the phone book numbers missing? I can't access after upgrading to the .96 version. Any help would be appreciated.

Default T-Mobile tethering via bluetooth

Has anyone gotten tethering to work on this new version (for T-Mobile)? It seems to work for me on my Laptop via a USB cable, but I'm trying to connect a GPS system via bluetooth and it's not working.

Is this known to work on certain OS versions and not others?

Thanks

I completed the update as noted in marcfogel's post, and the only thing that caught me off guard was the fact that I had $49.43million on Texas Holdem King 2...and now it's all gone! Looks like I will have to start over at $500

What exactly are you trying to do? I can tether with mine via BT or USB. I can also connect my BT GPS puck to the BB and use TeleNav/Google Maps/BBMaps.
