New version of QuickNote released, Version 1.1, with configurable Options, including the option to clipboard auto-paste on startup, and configurable font size. Source code provided as sample in the Development Forum to show how easy it is to create BlackBerry software like this. This program is only about 100 lines long. Enjoy!

My favourite font is now X-Large (30) in Extra Bold mode. This is because, as a hearing impaired guy, I like to type notes to show to other people, who may not be able to read tiny BlackBerry text as well.
It's also easier to read bigger text while I am typing while walking as the BlackBerry can shake around a bit. I like to keep the font in the rest of the BlackBerry small, so it's good to have the option of a customizable font specific to Quick Note. (For the rest of the BlackBerry, I use size 8 or 10 BBMillibankTall Bold.)

Two purposes for myself:
1. Clipboard editing utility. If I enable Paste on Startup, QuickNote essentially becomes a clipboard editor.
2. As a deaf guy, typing notes to show other people like "Fries and coke" to a fast food cashier, or "123 Main Street at Third Avenue" to a cab driver. Sometimes it's hard to communicate to strangers. They don't always read very well, so the adjustable font size helps, I use a bigger font size for QuickNote than for the rest of the BlackBerry.

Paste on Startup
OK I get it now. Whatever is in the clipboard is copied to this when you hit Q not when the BB is turned on. That is what confused me.

really cool app. i installed quicknote on my 7100i and set the middle button to open it. its great. something to think about in future versions is an option to autosave it as a memo when you close the program.

Short answer: Not possible.
Long Answer: Programmer Geek Speak follows. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't seen an API that allows me to access MemoPad text. I am looking through RIM JDE 4.1.0 programmer API's. If you know of any, I might be able to add this feature. I checked both javax.microedition.pim.PIM and net.rim.blackberry.api.pim.PIM, but it does not seem to allow this.

patrick...my friend who uses a Verizon 7250 also has the same problem, and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. The rest of us, with 7290s, an 8700, and a 7100g, on Cingular, don't have that problem, but when you press "c" on the 7250 you get SMS, not email. He installed OTA.
Mark...possible bug?

Short Simple Answer: I believe it's a possible BlackBerryOS bug. Try upgrading your BlackBerryOS to a newer version.
Long Complex Answer: Caution, computer programmer geek terminology follows. I am just doing a simple RIM 4.1 API call using net.rim.blackberry.api.invoke.Invoke using the following:
Invoke.invokeApplication(Invoke.APP_TYPE_MESSAGES, new MessageArguments(MessageArguments.ARG_NEW));
There appears to be no way to specify whether the new message is a blank SMS or a blank email. Therefore, it appears to be a bug that is specific to BlackBerry model 7250. If any other computer programmer or RIM developer can help clarify this, please let me know.
This affects QuickCompose only, and only on 7250 as reported so far. QuickNote has no problems on model 7250.

for some reason, I can only "Q" or "C" from when I'm in the applications folder. If I try and do it from the home screen, it doesn't do anything. I've disabled "Dial From Home Screen" under options.. any ideas?

Switch themes to ones that does not have a separate Applications folder. If you don't have other themes, enter http://mobile.blackberry.com in BlackBerry Internet Browser, and download some. Then go to Options->Themes.

Mark,
I really like this app. Download on 7250 VZW with 4.0.2 OS. One thing I'd like to see is that the text is saved when you exit the app. To my surprise I wrote something down and then when back in to retrieve and it was gone ;-(
I know the text is copied to the clipboard but I'd like to keep a running list... Can the text be saved and at my leisure I can wipe the slate clean. Maybe in the next version?
Thanks again.
