I agree. What I read was this doctor was highly regarded by most people in the town and he won people's trust with his endearing ways.
Except there were a few in town that did not trust him.
As far as punishments, I often think we should go back to punishments used in colonial times like the pillory, stocks, whipping posts to name a few.
