Do you have a memory card installed?

Have you tried doing the upgrade with the card removed? If not, give it a try - I think I recall others having issues like this with earlier versions of 4.5.

No mem card in mine. Brand new out of the box. No SIM or anything in it. I sent it back and a new one should be here in the next day or so. I'll try on that one and report back.

Normally have. Had it in during the first time I tried it. Second time I tried it I had the memory card removed.

I have gotten it to work. I had to uninstall and reinstall the DM, and then do a battery pull and plug it in again and it downloaded and works just fine. I also had to take my memory card out. Thanks to everyones help.

Yep, tried that too. Wouldn't work on DM 4.3, so I upgraded to 4.6. Still wouldn't work, so I uninstalled everything, reboot a few times, and tried again. Still no dice.

5 times?!

Ok, so, to get the story straight before I try again, here is what I believe needs to be done:

Backup Blackberry (extra precaution)
Uninstall all Blackberry software from PC
Reboot
Install DM 4.6
Reboot
Install Firmware 4.5.xxxx
Reboot
Remove Memory Card
Connect VIA USB to a root port (not through a hub)
Connect DM to BB and attempt upgrade

Anybody think of anything I've missed?

My upgrade process has always been (assuming the right DM and OS package are already on computer and the phone is connected via USB):

1. backup
2. pull media card
3. upgrade (via matching 4.x DM install (i.e. OS 4.3 / DM4.3)

That's always worked flawlessly for me. One time the phone got hung up with an error screen in the middle of an install, but after restarting the upgrade process it finished normally.

there is no need for the Desktop Manager and OS versions to match, absolutely no reason.

I've used DM 4.2 to upgrade OS 4.5, and DM 4.6 to upgrade OS 4.2... no matching required.

I didn't mean to suggest that it was required, only that it's how I've been doing it and that I've never had a single issue with the upgrade process. Sorry I didn't make that more clear, and thanks for pointing it out.

eh? The first link to the OS does work for the 8110 OS, scroll down. I just looked, clicked and began a download.

I just fixed the second link for the DM software, works now.

the first link takes me to

Software Download for Vodafone Australia and Fiji
and looks basically exactly like the second site.

am i supposed to download Desktop Software 4.5 from the first site, and Desktop Software 4.2 SP 2 from the second one?

Please read the post. The first link contains the OS (and likely also the Desktop Manager, too.)

The second link contains links to just the Desktop Manager download area.

This is just not that hard.

I did read the post >_>
It's confusing to me cause the two links lead me to sites that look almost exactly alike.

I'll just wing it

--edit--

Nevermind, didn't know I was supposed to go to Blackberry Pearl 8100 software on the first link.

you can get the 8100 software there and it will work on your 8100. However, this is the 8110 thread. There should be an 8100 thread that you should be posting in.
