My computer and internet usage policuy states that the company may monitor, audit and/or log any and all data residing on or transiting through company owned or controlled devices and networks.

In other word, if you use company equipment or connect to the comp[any wire, expect no privacy.

We allow users to buy their own devices and attach to our BES BUT they have to sign a form that tells them we have a right to do what ever to the device to protect our company and network. And we have a special REALLY locked down IT policy for those devices. Much more so than our company devices. They can't install or change anything period!! If they agree to all the stuff and sign then we allow it. The surprising thing is we actually have about 20 users. The only real issues are when they need to get a device fixed or swapped. We simply wipe and remove the device. And when they are ready for the new device they just give us the PIN and we activate them again. Really it's not bad. BUT we went through alot upfront to educate them on what they could and could not do.

Default BES + Personal Phones

Our BES only has personal devices attached to it. As such we have no security in place and just push out a Default IT Policy. It's really just a pathway to mail, calendar, and contacts so we don't use any of the management features built into BES. The setup is pretty brainless.

1. User adds BES to their plan.
2. You add their account to your BES and set an Activation Password.
3. You go into Enterprise Activation on their device, type in their e-mail and password and activate.

prdaley you know that the users have access to your internal network via the devices right? Unless your doing some magic on the BES server itself to restrict?

Yeah, that definitely sums up what BES is.

Well, that doesn't really sum up what it is. It's a robust management tool. My point was that with personal devices I just give people a pathway to their mail, calendar, and contacts, and that's it. You can do a plethora of things above and beyond that and as a BCSA you should know that.

Stainless Steele, that's why I'm in the process of winding down our BES. Due to the environment I'm in I can't use it like it's supposed to be used. The users run the show here, unfortunately.
