when I bought my NEXTEL 7520

However can someone please explain how to use "S=2" as a dial up number when it contains an illegal character? Stonent?

Win 2000 pro busts me for the "=" when I enter this as a dialing number as instructed ....

I have no problem querying the modem, but cannot connect ....

Please help !

OK Someone helped me get past that one - thank you and nevermind -

Now I can send AT commands and get an OK back - but bringing up a browser does not connect to the internet - Were some steps left out in the instructions?

If anyone has successfully done this with a Nextel 7520 please contact me - I would like to post a more complete solution - for general use - THANK YOU!

you may not have access to DNS servers

do you have an IP address through the modem connection?

can you ping a public IP address (i.e. 216.239.39.99)?

can you ping a domain name (i.e. google.com)?

If you don't have an IP, you're not connected. If you can't ping a public IP address, you are only connected to an WAN, not the internet. If you can't ping the domain name, you are only missing name resolution.

If you can't resolve names, you will need to find two DNS server addresses and manually provide them through the TCP/IP protocol configuration option of your Dial Up Networking connection object.

Yea I cannot get my 7520 to work either... I get dialing then after about 1min get a error w/ hardware???? I dont even get as far as you??? ANY HELP?

I tried to get Cingular to add the required "WIX" entries to my account, but they said they could not find them (talking to a "normal" customer support rep). Then, I talked with the Cingular Data Connect support folks, and they said that the BlackBerry device could not support modem connections (which I ignored) and that the WIX items are not in the billing system anymore. They said that this means they have dropped the "Pay per use" and you now have to buy a separate data plan. I went ahead and had them enter a 5MB data plan on my acct just to try it out (with the intent of cancelling it), but I still cannot get the connection to work. I am using all of the settings listed here, but I'm getting a 718 (PPP Timeout) error. :(

It makes me wish that I would have stayed with ATTWS a while back since it doesn't look like they have these problems.

:( I spent quite a while on the phone with a Cingular Rep in "Data Connect Product Management" today. He says they are gertting lots of questions about using the 7290 as a modem for laptops and to date they have no solution. I have tried it using all tips listed in the forum and have had no luck. I will keep watching postings if anyone knows anythging new to try.

and Mark, you may want to alter your APN setting for T-Mobile (atleast for BES accounts) to be wap.voicestream.com instead of internet2.voicestream.com (works for me, atleast - internet2 does not).

I have added the DNS entries and eliminated 718 error. My connection is now working like a champ (posting through my BB modem right now).

My only question remains:

Has anyone gotten Cingular to add the "WIX" entries to their account in the past week? I was told that they are no longer being offered. I would just like to verify before I keep spending another $20 a month with them for the data connect that used to be free.

I've heard no mention of anyone receiving Data Connect for free. I've been paying $50/month from the beginning for unlimited access outside of my voice package.

I'm paying $44.99 per month for Xpress Mail with Blackberry Unlimited. I also pay for a voice plan on top of that. My modem connection is working on that plan.

What Cingular once called Data Connect now seems to be called Laptop Connect. An unlimited plan on it is $79.99 per month. When I have read "Data Connect" on this thread I thought it referred to Laptop Connect.

I believe you do have to pay a for the $44.99 ($49.99 if you don't have a voice plan) service in order to do a TCP/IP (modem or Verichat) connection.

Can anyone list the modem files. I can see some files in the Momde Drivers Directort but when I try to add from the Phone and Modem Options panel, it says files not "Specified Location does not contain information about your Hardware"

Make sure your BlackBerry is a 7290, a 7100, a 7520, or the modem files won't work.

Yeah baby! I've got one of these to test for my company before public release. I can sense the modem but would love to get the thing past error 678. Any ideas?
