I put both today themes on mine using jibi's instructions in the theme section. I only put the today themes on, not the os.

Is the 8707 os much different than the newer 8700 os's like telstra and bharti?

I just switched to it and I think it is well worth it, for me. Between the two 'Today' themes I like the looks of the Vodafone one better, but the original one I had with the Telsta OS did not have all the same key mappings and it didn't have a Mail shortcut at all. I just upgraded to this version and all of the "normal" key mappings are in place including the mail shortcut. So from that standpoint, this version is already a better one.

I also had problems with the Telsta OS to the point that I was getting reboots and things when using bluetooth headsets and it seemed at other random times. I can't say yet that this version will fix that, but it was another reason for me to try this one.

Has it pretty much been decided that it does not matter that the 8707 is 3G and the 8700 is EDGE. The 8707 os will not affect the radio reception of the 8700???? (in a bad way that is)

Any upgrades to the Zen theme over the Telestra/Bharti? i.e. full icons, WITH the ability to hide the text on the unselected icons?

I've upgraded at 8700c. The GUI is nice but not quite as nice (today screen aside) from the Telstra. Most notable is the edges of the app menu.

Only problem I've noticed so far is an error when I try to go to the alarm app:

Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

If I upgrade to the 8707 os do I have to copy the 8707 files into the telstra os on my desktop in order for the DM to recognize it as an upgrade??

That's what I had to do. I actually used just the 8707 set of files and copied over the GRPS folder from the Telstra files.

I think I'll stay with my Telstra. I have the today themes, don't use 'em. I see no reason to force an upgrade that the DM won't recognize without so much hacking. Deleting the vendor file and replacing the .axl file is one thing, but this seems like you are blending two os's together.

So basically you end up running a hacked version of Telstra with 8707 files replacing some of the orig. telstra files.......right?

Hmm, when I said I disliked Zen, everyone was like "what? are you kidding? it's great!" Haha, i'm glad people have regained some consciousness . Just kidding. I'm in the process of putting on the 8707 software. Hopefully it will be good. Thanks for this good stuff everyone.

If you wish to update, here's what you need to do.

Make sure that you have a version of the 8700 OS on your computer in the RIM Files...After you finish downloading and installing the 8707 OS, open it, and copy all of the files into the 8700 folder. It will ask if you want to replace the current files, and click yes.

Make sure that you have the vendor.xml file deleted, and restart desktop manager, it will now realize that there is an upgrade for the device.

I have been running it on my BB for about 18 hours now, and have yet to recieve any kind of issues with it.

Let me know if this helps.
I did the exact same thing -- now i'm getting JVM Error 523. I can't seem to get Desktop Mgr to read it to ReLoad my old OS. Hmm, this is noooo good.

I really like the Vodafone Today screen. I dont think I will be using Zen any more either.

The only downside is that you can not change the Today items and you can not set a different pic as the home image.

But thanks for the help.
