the speech recognition feature is available on other types of "smart phones" like the Samsung a920. It generally doesn't require "programming". And, yes, it's totally cool.

Unless you have an odd accent it should work with most people. Some phones let you record your voice on the phone just in case there is confusion with some phonetics.

I don't have this blackberry, but it should say something in the manual.

some phones let you ask about "Network", Status, or GO TO some application

Wow this is soooo fking stupid!! Why would you guys get offended at my signature? It's not like I meant to say it, I heard it from a comedy and thought it was funny. Can a mod please pm me why you did this just because one (1) person got offended?

I'm sure shambasha is soo happy right now that he got what he wanted.

If you say just the word "Status" it should present you with a list of "Status" commands. Try saying "Check Status".

Here is a somewhat confusing blog article regarding the VoiceSignal upgrade:
CLARIFICATION: Voice-activated dialing software released for BlackBerry Pearl - BBHub

There is a $20 upgrade (called VSuite) which adds features but, at this point, there's only an OEM version for the BB 8100.

OTOH, VoiceSignal's web site (VoiceSignal Technologies - Product Gallery) says version 2.1 (preinstalled on the 8100) has the following features:

One-Step Name Dialing
One-Step Digit Dialing
Audio and Visual Prompts
Text-to-Speech Output
One-Step Extension Dialing
Support for Large Phonebooks
User Customization
Expert User Mode
Recognition Sensitivity
Audio Level Adjustment

Your post make it even more confusing...

I check out the link.

They do make software for other smartphone for extra cost.

BUT there's NO upgrade for the Pearl 8100

So what you have on the 8100, that's it. There's no way to add any additional voice commands features to your 8100.

I was amazed that the voice dialing actually works in French if you have your phone language set to it! This was a very pleasent surprise! All of the prompts are in French and it expects you to speak in French, its pretty awesome! I am anxious to see if it works in Mandarin too when they finally release a Chinese version of the 8100 OS.

You don't. Technology advance so much that you don't have to do anything anymore.

It works almost like the computer operator that you sometimes get when you call a company's customer service.

I'm not too happy, because I can only call like 3 people on my phonebook. I try the name Bairon and nothing, I try the Sean and Shawn and no dice. I'm gonna throw this thing away. JK on the throwing away part.

I you sync'ed the names off your outlook, you need to do an edit to the contact, wich can be add a period to the end of the name, then delete it, then save, and then voice commands will recognize the name. This has been talked about in the forums already. Some one else figured this out not me.

And to the people getting mad over sigs, you are a bunch of dck heads!!! Jesus farts just like you and me!

Is anyone else having problems with Voice command?
I already posted about this.
My voice dial button just stops working randomly. When i remove and reload the battery, it starts working again.
And then stops automatically.
Any clues why?

I also want to add that you have to say exactly what it is on the phone book. For example, if you have the name "Joe Doe" on it, you have to say "Joe Doe". You can't just say "Joe". It won't work.
