HouseApe, in my case, I tried to use UniCDMA and it didn't want to recognize my phone (a US Cellular 8330m). My guess is that UniCDMA has a problem with the long HEX MEID numbers. I tried it multiple times and with two different computers, one running Vista Home Premium and the other running XP Home.
In my case, I finally got my SPC through a US Cellular employee.

To Fishinhard, or anyone else.
I have a Curve 8330, 4.5.x.x OS, on SaskTel.
I tried the instructions, I did not have to enter the PDE IP/Port/etc, they were provided for me by the phone, but it did say port 8920, and I did have to choose the pull down, either Mobile or PDE because it was blank, I chose Mobile.
When I then load BB Maps, it takes a long time, then says rendering, the bar fills up, then the BB reboots.
I also notice my "wireless" connection is off (the bars at the top right of the BB main screen showing your current connection to the cellular network says OFF).
I was wondering first, if my problem with BB Maps is that the cellular connection is off.
2nd, if the port provided by my phone should be changed to a telus/bell configuration as stated in some of the messages here.
3rd, Fishinhard, how do you notice the GPS is off?

Hi, I cannot tell you about all the IP settings because I am not familiar with your carrier, but I would guess that Telus, Bell or Rogers might be appropriate if you are with a Canadian carrier.
Yes, after performing the mods with QPST, your phone's radio will be off. Turn it back on by going to Main Menu -> Manage Connections (that funny antenna-looking icon), and then check the box Mobile Network.
To verify that GPS is on, go to Options-> Advanced Options -> GPS and verify that it is set to Location On.

Gps
So here is the story. I did the Blackberry GPS HACK instructions and everything worked awesome. I installed a program and then rebooted the blackberry and then the GPS stopped working. I went back into QPST and it seems that the port number reverted back to 8910 instead of 8888. No matter what I do I cant get it to stay at 8888. Any Ideas?

I've posted this on CrackBerry as well . . .
I'm having problems with a Pearl Flip (8230) on SaskTel.
I tried both build 215 and 310 of qpst and encountered the same problems. Is there another version I should be using? Here are the details:
1. I confirmed that I can skip step one, my SPC is 000000,
2. I successfully re-assigned com5 and com6 to com1 and com2, (which included restarting my computer),
3. I start up BB desktop and it sees the phone OK,
4. I start up qspt and it reports the phone to be a SURF3100C-1900 on com2 (don't know if this is OK or not),
5. I hit OK,
6. Here's where my experience differs from the instructions, it does not give me the 'Select Base Model' screen but instead goes directly to the next screen,
7. I am able to hit the 'Read from Phone' button and it seems to read it OK,
8. And here is where I get stuck, there is no gpsONE tab or any tab that is gps related. And, yes, I realize you can scroll over to see more tabs however the last one on the list is 'Brdcst SMS'.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

A simple solution has been floating around over in the US Cellular section of Howard Forums. People have found that this issue can be fixed by installing the Garmin Maps Trial software. You must run the application at least once after installation. After that, you can uninstall and the fix remains.

The Garmin trial is not available for the 8230.
When I hit hxxp:\\getmobile.garmin.com/trial with my 8230, I get the message:
'Sorry, but the 7 day trial of Garmin Mobile is not supported on the BlackBerry device . . .'

Is this fix possible for the Tour? I ask, because the read memory section for the memory dump instructions doesn't include a memory address or memory length for the 9630. Will the 9530 settings do?

Works great, but resets..
Thanks for the great set of instructions. I was able to hunt down the proper QPST and use it on my Sasktel 8330 running ver 4.5.o.127. I have been pestering Sasktel for a year to see if I could get the GPS feature working and all they could tell me is that " we don't support it, but will be doing so soon". One of the main reasons I chose this phone was to have the GPS feature.
I was thrilled to find these great instructions and even more thrilled when I walked outside and connected quickly. (I tried the Garmin software at one point, but it doesn't fix it. I needed to use the instructions for QPST)
When I went to use the GPS today, it would not work. I went back into the QPST file and the PDE IP Address and the PDE Port number had both reverted back to I presume was the original setting. It may be Sasktel sends a refresh signal at some point or else the phone does it's own internal refresh. ( I did power the phone down last night, so that may be the reason) I will test that and report back) I have reset them again to the Telus and will see how long they last. Does anyone know if there is a way to use QPST to lock these down so they don't change back?
Thanks again for the PDF instructions..

Quick update re the PDE settings changing
It has been another 24 hours and I have powered down the BB twice and it has retained the PDE IP ddress and Port Number. ( It did not revert back ) That would indicate that powering it down is not the culprit. I did only power it down for 10 minutes, so a longer may affect it differently. I will keep monitoring it.
It is great to finally have a working GPS.
