Did you successfully start the MDS simulator before trying to browse on the simulated BB? That has to be running before you'll get anywhere.

Default Laymans terms... ?

Hmm.. I'm not as technical minded as some of the people on here and I'm not sure what an MDS Simulator is or where to find it. Could you put it simpler?

Please and Thank You.

Sure...it's in the instructions:
Quote:
3) Start the MDS Simulator
4) Start the BB Simulator (probably best to choose your specific model)
But anyway, assuming you installed the JDE by the default settings, you can get to it by going to:
Start Menu>Programs>Research In Motion>BlackBerry JDE 4.1.0>MDS

Also note that the MDS Simulator is only included with the JDE. It will not be installed if you only downloaded the BB simulator.

Thank you very much, it is working fine now. I just took a shot in the dark at which .bat file to click and got lucky. One small thing which isnt really bothering me that much is i cant find the browser icon anywhere on the 7100v (my model). But im just using a 7100x plastic instead.

Cheers.

You know, I have been reading these forums for days now, since I got my 7130e and I finally got a handle on it. I got this to work first try, but I can't find a decent site to get the tunes off of. Any suggestions?

http://huenik.com/blackberry/ for somewhere to put the adp tones and there are several guides on howto convert wav/mp3 to adp on this forum. As for finding a sample to convert just try any site like mp3.com or equivelent to download samples.

My wife and I each use a blackberry. I have the 7290 and she has the 8700c. I would like to add ring tones to her phone.

I have downloaded the bb JDE program. I have launched the IDE to select the 8700c device. However, I do not see the option for the 8700c device. It is defaulting to the 7290.

Am I doing something incorrect? From reading the thread, it does not appear that other ran into this issue.

Thanks

I don't have an option for an 8700c either. I wouldn't worry about it the type so much, just pick the BB that is most compatible with the features of your 8700, especially regarding the supported ringtone formats.

Uninstall the one you currently use. Download the file again but from the blackberry developers page

http://www.blackberry.com/developers...de/index.shtml

Download both the BB Java Development Environment 4.1 and BB JDE Component Packet 4.1 software.

1. In the Workspace files view, right-click the workspace name, and
then click Properties.
2. Click Add.
3. Browse to the location of the new .jar file.
4. Click OK."

I dont understand what the Workspace file is and all this... maybe im just tired.

Aaarrrggghhhh!!!! I'm close to getting this to work. I've got the 8700c and none of simulators will "get link" with mp3. Is there a 8700c simulator? If yes, where can I get it?

Thanks.

Have you got MDS studio running and your firewall allowing access to the net for its files. I think it needs Java.exe to be allowed access however i could be wrong.

i'm not very computer literate, can you explain what MDS studio is? also, if i can surf to the website using a regular browser (IE or FireFox), then my firewall is all set, right? thanks.

in th start menu under Research In Motion > BlackBerry JDE 4.1.0 should be a link to start MDS Studio. run that before opening the simulator.

As for your firewall, it depends how its setup. It may ask you if you want to allow java.exe to connect to the internet. If so say yes. If its more advanced then you will need to open up its settings and add a rule for java.exe to be allowed to connect to the net.
