Default Similar problems here

My GPS works intermittently. It didn't seem to work at all, then once in a while I started to get a fix within 10, 20, or 50 meters. It seems to come and go, but it works less often than it does not. Installing GPSed seemed to find connections and help it be more regular, but even GPSed only got 5 satellites (which is better than none, I guess). I have adjusted pretty much all of the settings I can on the phone itself.

I'd really like to know if there is a definitive fix for this issue. Any other 8330 users on SaskTel or similar carrier, please let us know how this can be accomplished.

I could get data from my phone at settings with unicdma 1.096, but then the steps related to the winhex don't seem to work? I can't get any results when searching for 6-character numbers?

I'm having problems with a Pearl Flip (8230) on SaskTel.

I tried both build 215 and 310 of qpst and encountered the same problems. Is there another version I should be using? Here are the details:

1. I confirmed that I can skip step one, my SPC is 000000,
2. I successfully re-assigned com5 and com6 to com1 and com2, (which included restarting my computer),
3. I start up BB desktop and it sees the phone OK,
4. I start up qspt and it reports the phone to be a SURF3100C-1900 on com2 (don't know if this is OK or not),
5. I hit OK,
6. Here's where my experience differs from the instructions, it does not give me the 'Select Base Model' screen but instead goes directly to the next screen,
7. I am able to hit the 'Read from Phone' button and it seems to read it OK,
8. And here is where I get stuck, there is no gpsONE tab or any tab that is gps related. And, yes, I realize you can scroll over to see more tabs however the last one on the list is 'Brdcst SMS'.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.
I am having this issue as well. Has anyone resolved this?

Getting the SPC code is no problem, but what Base Model did you select in qPST? Any guide I find tells you the base models for every model except for the tour.

Thank you for the write up. The GPS finally works for me. I was concerned that the GPS would not work since Altell is now Verison, which seems to be more finicky.

For those that are having problems, are you 100% sure that you are using the QPST 2.7 Build 215? I fussed around with a few errors and connectivity issues before I found the 215. Once located, it seemed to work for me. Lets hope it will retain the settings

so Ive tried following the guide and hit a brick wall every where I turned.

here is what I have
US Cellular (USCC)
8330m curve - says 8330m on the about screen -
MEID with the new long MEID (A000000D etc)
currently running 4.5.0.138(205). I was using the current latest,(8330mAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel295_PL3.4.0.55_A4.5. 0.175_Sp rint_L.P.exe) but I downgraded to 205 hoping it would help.
Qpst build 215
CDMA Universal 3.1.4

here is what I have done so far.
first I fought with CDMA universal trying to get that to read the phone. when I punched in the starting address and length, then clicked read, I got a read error at starting address. I was unable to get the SPC code from my 8330m with CDMA Universal. but thats OK, since I did a google search and found it easy enough. Thanks to a suggestion on another forum, I tried ##123456 and wouldnt you know it, that worked.

I typed in ##123456 into the phone and the "CDMA Service Edit Screen" appears on the phone with my mobile number, imsls, home sid and so on. So, OK, I got the SPC. great. now I fireup the desktop manager, and then qpst. I get qpst to see my phone and then I tell it its a SURF6300-bb.

Now when I click Read from Phone, the "Enter Service Programming Code" appears, so I enter 123456 and click OK. A moment later another box appears tyring "You have entered an incorrect service programming code. The phone will not accept any read or write commands for the next 10 seconds".

then I have to unplug and replug the phone to reestablish the pc-bb connection.

I have tried this over and over again, on two different machines. same result. the code works on the phone to get me to the CDMA service edit screen, but not for qpst.

is it possible there are two codes? one for "CMDA Service Edit" and another for Service Programming?

I have tried to be as complete as possible in my description. if I have left anything out, please let me know and I will try to clarify.

I would appreciate any help or insite I can get on this, as my gps is totally non functional at this time.

OK. update:
after some more searching, I have found that the SPC code I was using ##123456 is in fact a code for a different page than the one I need.

according to a page I found on crackberry, (titled CDMA Service Edit)

However in order to get the full CDMA Service Edit screen you have to know your Service Programming Code. For example, if my SPC is 135680 then I can dial ##135680 and get the full editing screen.
so back to the drawing board I go. I have now managed to track down what I think is the right software to downgrade the BB to a version below 4.5.0.131
I went to the blackberry downloads site and selected Alltell for North America. then I selected the option for the 8330m and downloaded the file named 8330mAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel179_PL3.4.0.21_A4.5.0.127.ex e

I am almost done with the installation to the blackberry, and Ill try this unicdma thing again. wish me luck.

P.S, is there any good quick way of downloading that unicdma software? every link I find for it is either dead, bogus, or restricted..

Bingo, installing the old alltel version of the blackberry software made it possible to read the data from the phone following the tutorial. my SPC code was 693202. once I entered ##693202 into the phone I got a much longer page of information. not bad

Now Ive run qpst, read from phone, and set the GPS tab up with the settings provided by houseape, performed the write and everything went smoothly. now I just need to go test it out...

SUCCESS!!! it worked! Now I can upgrade to the latest software and pray it keeps on working :D

I should run down a summary of what I did to make this work....

first, I have a new US Cellular curve, 8830m. I went to the blackberry website, clicked on support & services, blackberry device and desktop software, then clicked on access your services provider download site.

then I scrolled down to the North America section and clicked on the ALLTEL link. I picked the 8330m menu option and from there I was able to find the old version of the software. filename 8330mAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel179_PL3.4.0.21_A4.5.0.127.ex e

once I installed that to the BB, I followed the steps outlined on the howto PDF in the fist post of this thread. I used universal cdma version 3.1.4 so I didnt have to mess around with port rearranging. I was able to read the memory to a file, and found that the demo copy of winhex was able to find the SPC key in demo mode without any fussing around with cracks.

Next up I ran qpst and read the data from the phone with my new SPC key, and filled in the blanks on the gpsOne page with the alltel info. rwite to phone, wait for it to recover from a stack of expected errors, and voila! I have GPS!

WOOHOO!

Default service code uscellular bb 8330m?

Does anyone have service code for the 8330m for uscellular chicago area?

I have long version MEID and can't get the service code.

I have talked very nicely to tech support without luck. All they want to do is give me a new phone.

I like my phone but all I want is working gps.

I want to add to the discussion; I am a new BlackBerry Tour 9630 owner on SaskTel, and the GPS was crippled when I bought the unit.

I tried the Garmin GPS fix and it works!

Read about the trial here: hxxp://www8.garmin.com/mobile/blackberry/trial.jsp
Or visit this page on your BB: hxxp://getmobile.garmin.com/trial
(change the hxxp to http)

So far, just BB Maps works with GPS; Google Maps still can't find a satellite. But I only had the chance to test in an area with spotty reception.

Default Gps On 8330

Hi All
Just followed the excellent pdf and have a working Sasktel GPS.
I did notice before setting the changes to Telus that I had IP address of 206.47.201.75, so assume this is for Sasktel.
But the position was un-checked as was all the box's on the left. of GPS one tab
Going to go back to the Sasktel IP address to see if it works still.

Anyway excellent work round.
Thanks

Default gps

Just an update work just as well on the Stock Sasktel settings, think all that was wrong was not having all the boxs checked and no position set.
It has made such an improvment it is un real.
Getting 11 birds sat in my basement, before I could not get anything even outside.

off to find a good free satnav progr

Thanks
