Apple has nowhere near the security of RIM. Stating that is down right laughable. I shouldn't have read past that but decided to do so.

I have an EVO and having HDMI out is a nice feature, it is one I do not use. It is not necessary to have on a phone. The 9800 has a bigger screen than most BlackBerrys. It may not have a 4.3 inch screen like the EVO, HD2, or Droid X, or even a 5 inch screen like the Dell Streak, but most people don't want phones that big. 4G is only available for Sprint, and it isn't even true 4G, it is WiMAX. AT&T and Verizon haven't launched LTE (true 4G) yet, so why would they add this to a phone when it won't be utilized as the 9800 is only for AT&T now. The iPhone 4 (originally to be called the iPhone 4G) changed the name because it was misleading.

Better battery? Are you kidding me? Have you used an Android device? How about an iPhone? The battery life on both of them is terrible when compared to a BlackBerry. Also, it seems pretty contradictory to me. You ask for all of these features such as 4G and a bigger screen, these 2 items alone will kill a battery more than anything. I know because I have an EVO in a 4G area with a 4.3 inch screen. I am lucky if I can get a full day (from ~6:30 am until ~10:00 pm) without the phone dying. With my 8330, I got nearly 3 days on a consistent basis.

I still have an 8330 as well (for work), but you are just complaining to complain. Obviously you want an Android device. You are listing specs (like 4G) and not even knowing the facts about them. You just want to complain. Go get an Android and be done with it.

I am going to throw one of those monolith things in the parking lot and run it over and over with my dumptruck to let them know how ashamed I am of them!
That's like saying Kia & Rolls Royce are competitors because they both make cars. When evo, droid, etc. are adopted into being part of a business's communication infrastructure, then they'll be competitors. Until that time, they're in a different business space and are definitely not competitors.

Please don't bother posting a Torch review; the fact that you already thinks it's crappy means you're already biased against it.

I work for a construction company and have seen BBs run over by pickups, dump trucks, and cranes. Guess what? Yeah, screens were broken but I was able to recover all the data off of all of them. Try that with one of the 'competitors' you mentioned.

the droids wouldn't even be affected, you'd have to run them over with a commercial jetliner to have any kind of damage.

Any real-world statistics to back up this ridiculous claim? I didn't think so.

He's just trying to exit from the camera menus and a couple more and the lag is noticeable. He has to wait for the OS to catch up with his clicking, and the phone is not doing much. What would happen when a proper user starts running those 4-5 apps some 80% of the userbase run? A logged in twitter account, a logged in facebook account, a gmail mobile app for non-corp mail, pulling some podcasts while using gmaps etc..

Disappointing, extremely disappointing :(

I also have to say that the Torch just looks cool as all outdoors, both opened & closed. And lets face it, for some, looks count when purchasing a phone.

Coolness im afraid wont cut it for the enterprise world. Maybe it'll become a great hit with japanese schoolgirls since everything "kawai" sells well down there. For the rest of the adult userbase, ergonomics and usability factors are the magic words and until we spend some days with it we wouldn't know.

Until we do actually get to touch one there are some youtube videos around. A 15 minute hands on and a 10 minute web browser shootout both of which i found disheartening.

And as I said, "for some".
Depending on what kind of business you're in, "appearance" does make a difference to some. Board members of a bank might not consider looks important, but those at a company that makes video games might. Even salesmen of companies will at times make a choice, taking into consideration the look of a particular phone.
Appearance is a item to consider, and the Torch just has it. Most of those Android phones I see just look square.

Remember when the Storm came out and was very laggy? A few OS updates and it was a lot smoother. I'd imagine that this would be the same case.

One thing I would have loved to see is a better built device. That's my biggest complaint. The latest Blackberries, the 9700 etc. are poorly built. They crack and creak constantly. I wish they have better industrial design.

Other than that it does everything that I need it to do. I bought a iPad for other stuff and absolutely love it. It has basically replaced my laptop.

I had no issues with the 9700. Great device, great on BES, great with multi media too. Kids watch movies on it, I listen to my music and play a few games that I downloaded. Usualy its FaceBook, Twitter, and BBM groups I spend my time on. one user of mine has not turned his 9700 off in over 150 days. Many iphone users here do the double button reboot twice a day even on the iphone 4.

If I want to try a bunch of useless apps, I can borrow my friends itouch for an hour and be sick of it. jail break it in seconds, drop it once and bye bye screen. (he replaced it twice already. we have had more iphone screen replacements than all other devices put together in the past 9 years including laptops.

The 9800 is a best of both worlds of touch screen and keyboard.

Maybe its not for you, but it is definitly for me.

I dropped my 8900 from the space station last week.
It survived reentry, splashdown in the Atlantic AND a clumsy navy guy. The only damage to it was slime residue from a giant octopus that tried to use it as a back scratcher.
