i went all the way back to the verizon issued software and i am back up to about 15 FPS - it is much better quality video
i tried different areas - bright and dark...the .97 gave the poorest results in FPS

hmm I reverted to .81 without success getting youtube to work After that I decided to go back to .71 which is what my phone had when it came in and no luck either. I keep getting the unsupported format with youtube as well as vtap. Both sites used to work before I did the upgrade. Any ideas on settings that might be messed up?

You could go extreme and use Jloader to do a wipe and reload the OS. But frankly, I don't know if that would help. Very weird what's happening to you...does Sprint require an APN setting?

I did the whole JLoader and reload the OS after the 507 error and no luck. It has to be a setting somewhere. Sprint doesn't require APN. I feel stupid calling the blackberry support center for youtube playback but I might do that if I can't figure it out by Monday. Thanks for your suggestions.

which error did you get and what does your screen say now? you probably need to use jl commander to wipe the device and reload the OS that way

Just as an update. I am in the process of downgrading because, for whatever reason, with .81 I averaged about 16.5MB of free memory. The memory ever so slowly would decrease and I would perform a soft reset every four or five days.
With .97, however, I began with 15.9 or so MB on install and it quite quickly would proceed into the 14's (within a day or less).
I am not sure if it's simply based on programs I have installed, but I seem to have had better success with .81.
Edit:
Any idea what I am doing wrong here? I uninstalled .97, restarted the computer, and opened DM (sans vendor.xml). Nothing. I reinstalled .81 and redeleted vendor.xml. Still nothing. Any idea why DM isn't trying to replace the software on the Pearl?

some leftovers must be still on your HD and DM thinks that the latest version is .97.
You may look into windows registry and see if there any relevant entries relating to .97 in DM branch(es).
Last resort would be uninstalling DM too, clean up and install again followed by OS installation
Personally, I think that you can clean up .97 a little bit and be at the same memory level as .81
With all this "upgrading" I doubt that there are any real differences between Altell, Verizon or US Cellular, so you should be able to get exactly the same stuff with with .97 as with .81

When you ran DM, did you open the App Loader and go to the application listing screen and see if it listed any action on the BB OS applications?

At either of those memory levels you are perfectly fine...if the apps you have installed have changed between versions, that will obviously affect memory, as well as what you're doing w/the BB (more playing/tweaking w/a new OS, maybe).
But I wouldn't go through a downgrade for that variance, at least not unless you saw a bigger difference and faster, consistent memory loss. You could do a couple very minor memory tweaks (remove a few irrelevant CODs) and be above your former memory leve.

If anything, I have noticed the exact opposite. I got 1 extra MB of memory, and the memory "trickle" has slowed considerably. I used to lose about 1-2 MB per day and it would stop losing memory at about 10 MB. Now after two days, I have only lost about 300 KB.

Yes, My memory was increased when I was using .97
I wish it met my other needs.
I am back to running .60

For whatever reason, I could not get DM to install the older software. So, I reinstalled .97. (Can you tell I am not a very patient person--or overly concerned.) I will mention that under .81, my memory decreased only slightly, as you noted yours does now. But, with .97, after a reset, I have about 16.6MB (I cleared off the help and medical dictionary). Within about three hours, I am down to 16.1. While it is still much more memory than when I used VZW's .60, I cannot understand what's causing 500K to drop when all it is doing is sitting on my desk.
I suppose I'll just rely on soft reset and the eventual release of 4.5.

New To BB
Hey all,
I am new to BB and I was reading this forum and finally figured out how to download the new OS .97 for my 8130. Thanks so much for the help! ![Smile](http://www.blackberryforums.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
