Glad to help out. I enjoy reverse engineering stuff. Especially when they make it so easy. Unite is practically a BES with about 10% different code. It reminds me of when Windows workstation and server were only a registry entry apart from each other. Of course MS fixed that with a service pack. Lets hope RIM doesn't do the same. So far, they have been good to us.

no if I could get away from a wired sync with outlook it would be awesome. But I use outlook as my email source and I have to be able to add calendar and emails from there as well.

I just want one calendar and contact software.

It kinda defeats the purpose, but you should be able to do that. I haven't tried it, but this should work:

Setup unite
Setup device with unite
Let it complete its activation and initial sync
It will add its shared contacts (you can delete them later)
Go into advanced options.
Enterprise activation
Alt-cnfg
Disable wireless sync
Save and done
Wired sync should work now. Email and web should still go through unite.

You want Outlook to wirelessly sync to your blackberry through Unite?

That is a fun project. Can't do it like the BES unless you are running an Exchange server at home. Would have to build an outlook connector that would write to the Unite Calendar. First we have to find the Unite Calendar. Will start there.

If the wireless sync to unite is possible yes. But i would accept just a way to merge the two on the desktop. I just don't want to have to insert the events twice.

But on a side note I appreciate all you are doing on this project.

more than appreciate.
can a line be added , in the same manner that you allowed for the use of additional browsers, to allow for both wired and wireless sync?

that might solve the problem.

That is a function of the activation process. I think there is a policy to block wireless sync, but I don't think it would help in this case as it wouldn't also open up wired sync. Could be wrong.

Interesting notes on the table structure in Unite.

It appears to have all of the tables the BES has all the way down to the LCSConnector. It also has Unite specific tables. The Unite specific tables all begin with HB (Home BES?)

HBAppointment = Calendar entries. Really straight forward schema
HBContact = Contacts
HBMemo = Memos... Yup... Memos and they are populated
HBTasks = Tasks... Yup... Same thing. Populated.

Looks like they planned on shared memos and tasks, but never implemented.

I'm messing with the tables to see what can be done with them. Fun stuff...

Based on what I saw last night, you should be able to write a CDO/ADO script that would pull from outlook contacts and calendar and insert them into the table structure. There wouldn't be that much conversion. You would just need to schedule it to run on whatever interval you wanted. It shouldn't be difficult, just time consuming. I may not be able to dedicate the resources to that side project though. Someone else may need to step up to the challenge. If something changes and I get around to it, I will let you know.

Question Tracking Policy

Are people getting periodic tracking data in SyncLBS with the tracking policy? If I select location tracking to No, then back to Yes, I get an update in SyncLBS, but none after that

I also found a way to produce CSV files using bcp, here is an example for other MS SQL newbies:
Code:
bcp "select * from Unite.dbo.ITPolicy2" queryout itpolicy2.txt -c -t, -T
I got my old BES Express working again. It runs on a poor Win2K server without many tools so I use the above bcp command to pull out the HandheldBlob in hex.

I believe I left it at the default 15min interval. Of course there is no telling how Unite handles it compared to BES. None of the devices I have on Unite have a dataplan, so it is hard for me to test. I could hook up my work backberry, but I think that would violate some company policies. Policies that I set myself, so it makes it more painful.

I am having the same problem. I cobbled together a script to integrate this with the Google Maps API, hopes of providing GPS tracking for my family when I run the Ottawa Half Marathon on Sunday.

Bascially, I have a script checking writing records from SyncLBS to mySql database. A KML file for a google maps overlay is created via php.

I have been pretty disappointed with the results. I find that very few datapoints seems to be recorded and it doesn't necessarily correspond to the 15 minute policy.

I will still try on Sunday to see how it works and report back.

Maybe next week.

The only problem I see with modifying the IT policy this way is that further modification using the Unite web admin results in the settings going back to their defaults. I.e. Adding phone numbers to the restrict phone usage list will cause Bluetooth to stop working and have only the Unite browser available. Any ideas how to work around this?

Instead of the script doing a wholesale swap out we would have to:

Isolate the bits that we want from the IT Policy (ie. Bluetooth).
Extract the existing policy from the Unite DB
Do the math to add the bits we want in.
write it back to the DB.

The script would become a Policy patcher at that point and would need to be run after every Unite change. However, it should at that point retain the Unite changes

What we need to do:
Import the Unite policy onto a BES so that you can see what the Unit Policy truly is. "And" the raw data against The policy we want so that we can see the bits that need to be plugged back in.

Side note... Has anyone yet tried installing the BES Admin Console on Unite? That could make all of this moot. If no one else has tried it, I will try it tonight if I have time.

I tried to install it (from BESX) on top of, and connect as a remote client. Both cases failed reporting incompatibilities with the Unite database.
