I tried the loader.exe and it still just wants to update applications only even tho the system no longer finds any vendor.xml files even after searching ALL FILES AND FOLDERS.
Never had a problem updating before. Any ideas? I already tried John Clark's procedures to disable automatic updates with DM, still no luck.

Funny... because i just got an 8900 that had the old versio of your OS on it. i had no problem upgrading to 5.0. However, i slimmed my version down (shrink-a-os.exe) and used John Clarks guide for even more reductions... i got my OS install down to like 60 MB or something... it was going to be about 90+!
although, shrinking it shouldnt have anything to do with the DM saying that you need a service plan.
One other thing you could try is this:
1) backup everything - your going to wipe your phone in the next step
2) use JL commander to wipe and restore your phone to factory settings
3) once you get an error 507, you need to juse loader.exe /nojvm
this is where you would normally install the OS files... so if you are going to shrink them, then before this step would have been a great time to get that done ;)
best of luck!
