Ok, point taken, I do see how this could be abused, but it leaves people like me SOL, and in a rock and a hard place, since I doubt I can get a blank policy file. I'm not trying to cause trouble, I just need to get these security policy off these devices so we can sell the damn things. I'm not trying to stir up trouble, it's just frustating.

Also, even if people kept reloading blank policy files, wouldn't the BES clobber it time and time again? All humans (given time) eventually give into the futility in just keep loading a blank policy file.

Is there anyway to actually download the policy.bin from the blackberries so I can see what the policy currently is. I know Call Barring is enabled, but I don't have any active SIMs on T-Mobile with BB Data to check the other features. If data services are enabled, we might be able to sell them as data only blackberries, but I really don't want to consider that option.

I don't know how to get the policy file, or what it looks like. I've only seen how you create/edit one on the BES; sorry. I appreciate the situation you are in. You have something that has little value, and RIM won't help you. Kind of stinks.

Oi. Am I pretty SOL unless I can get a policy.bin file? (and I don't want to ask on fear of being banned), and even if I do, is it legal to use it, and futhuremore, can the same policy file be used more then one, and finnally, if I can get the policy.bin on these devices, am I going to loose anything functionality-wise?

(IMHO, can anyone tell me if it will even work with a BB 7230?)

Ok, some kind soul let me have a policy file, so life is good. I downloaded the trail of BES (though I think it lacks the files I require to read policies). Thank you, and shame on you RIM for not even let GSM stores who have badges with the major carriers not being able to do this.

Exclamation Pls Help - Need policy.bin file as well

Not to jump on the bandwagon here, but I too would greatly appreciate someone sending me the policy.bin file. I bought my 7290 off ebay, couldn't install 3rd party apps, and after much rsch started posting in the Aftermarket Software thread yesterday seeking help. Have eventually ended up here due to kind posts from others.

I do not work at a company that uses blackberries (they all use treos), it's for my personal use.

Thanks in advance for the help,

zeta696

Exclamation Another Thought: PIN Releasing

After spending awhile on the phone with T-MO Blackberry support, the tech told me that the solution to my problem is to have the person I bought it from release my BB's PIN on their IT system (not sure how feasible that is, but I've contacted the person and made the request).

Assuming the T-MO tech is correct, how will my BB know that the BES system it's PIN is tied to is released once it's been released? Does their system send out some sort of signal wirelessly?

Anyone familiar with this?

You need Desktop Manager, you may want to read the Manual. The how to even tells you you need that. You may want to READ A LOT then post a question. This is an Easy process and if you read layed out very well.
