Just use your blackberry browser to go to the geekandproud web site then use the OTA setting.
Just done it now, great app, any chance of getting the app for differant colour coverage led?
Cheers

No problems here. I think some people have put electrical tape over the white LED under the ball.

The TIM update changes how the backlight works. It allows you to turn off the automatic backlight. The automatic backlight controls the keypad and white trackball light. If the keypad and trackball light are on it washes out the color. Try with autobacklight on and with it off and choose your favorite. I went ahead and put the very small piece of electrical tape on the white LED under the pearl and leave the autobacklight on. This allows me to have the extra bright mode for in the sun yet have the nice colored trackball when it's under dim light.

This version doesn't work on the 8800, but hopefully should not put it into a reset loop. I can't test this, so if anyone is brave enough to try it and let me know, I'd appreciate it. If you don't want to risk wiping/reloading everything, don't install on an 8800.

Tried installing OTA on my 8800. Fortunately, it did not go into an infinite reset loop but it gives me the following message when I go into the Application from the Options Screen: "ColorPearl only works on the Blackberry 8100/Pearl".
I am willing to test the application for you if you continue developing it for the 8800.

I don't think the 8800 even has the colored lights under the trackball. Look in your phone app under Options >General Options. Is there a menu item for "Ringtone Lighting?" If I remember right, there's not. I don't think this app will ever work on the 8800. 8800 users are probably stuck with the colored scotch tape method.

I didn't think so, but then I've never even gotten to touch an 8800. I'm not allowed that close to such sophisticated equipment!

Just remove the trackball. The chrome ring pops off, then unsnap a small metal retaining ring and then the pearl assembly will lift out. The led's are underneath. The white one is the lower right. a very small piece of black tape will do the trick nicely. Just be careful with the chrome ring. It has tabs at 3, 6, and 9 oclock.

I downloaded the program off of my phone using the wed brower and it works great.. i totally like it especially the color Cyan.. But the thing is that.. i think it has a glitch to it because when i recieve a miss call, sms, mms, e-mails, and BB messages on my messanger the blinking indicator becomes solid and changes from light blue, purple, or other colors.. its kinda weird.. is their somethnig that i can do to fix that problem? I mean i think it cool and stuff but i reather have a program for that which is my next question... Is their a program out their that can change the colors of the indecator?

I found that in my case, the trackball was more vibrant with the auto backlight on. Like John said, you have to try what works for you.

What is the life of the LEDs — can they live forever? Or will they die in years? Will this cause overusage which will end their life prematurely?
It's a great program by the way!

LED's last longer than pretty much any other sort of illumination device. Typical numbers are 30,000 to 50,000 hours. That's about 4.5 years of continuous 24/7 usage. Hope you're not that much in love with your Pearl .
