CDMA carriers do not permit you to add devices to their network. This is different than the GSM carriers that allow you to move devices around.

Also, as was mentioned in your other, now defunk thread, CDMA devices cannot be unlocked like GSM devices can, since they do not use SIM cards. Yes, the hybrid models do, but only the GSM part can be unlocked in those devices.

I know that Sprint does have the capability to unlock their units to be used on other CDMA networks, see below ...

Thats ok though. I was just trying to find someone that may know the code. Thanks for the help!!

Even if there is such a code, each one would be unique to the device it's unlocking. There is no master code that I'm aware of.

oh well, I guess I just have to wait until the altell/ verizon merge is complete and I can shop in a Verizon store. They have them on sale for $19.99. By that time, who knows, maybe the Storm will have gone down a bit in price! Thanks for the help.

"CDMA carrier like Verizon, the new carrier would have to activate the phone for you because CDMA phones don't use SIM cards. And as of now, there's no guarantee they'll do so. "
Right from the article you posted
I wasn't under the impression there was a code, but I guess they have to lock the phone somehow. But the thing with CDMA phones was the other carrier had to flash the device with their software for it to work on the network and I guess that was a joint process between the two carriers if that did happen. Sprint a lot of the times would not flash the device if it didn't have Sprint branding. Companies that unlock phones do not have codes to unlock CDMA phones that I have ever noticed...

true about that also.....sprint has the esn pre-stored in the database as well as verizon....so even if you tried and unlocked it.....it wouldnt bring it up in the system....unless you had someone hacking the system network too...but lets be realistic haha

i am new to this site and blackberries but i have a sprint blackberry that i flahsed to alltel working right now. alltel and verizon will take phone from other carriers. verizon is a little harder to convince to do but if you talk to the right tier 3 technical support guy he will do it. alltel for now is alot easier to do just do not tell them it is from another carrier and call them do not take it up to a store. also verizon last year adopted an open network policy where it alows you the consumer to use other carriers phones on there network providing they carry the same model and of course providing it is cdma and not gsm. i will check back today sometime just let me know if you need help getting it on alltel. i am not sure if you can pm here but if you can pm me and i will help you will finding the stuff needed to make it work.

Wirelessly posted (BOLD)
Delivery sucks.... Lol
But to finish this talk about the unlocking, like it was already said, the PIN/ESN are bought by the carriers and thus, only work on that carrier. They will not unlock it, because they would be losing money on the phone and customer.
On GSM phones, they buy the phone itself, not the ESN, so there is less of a problem with unlocking.

No, you cannot go from GSM to Sprint. The radios are different. You can go from one GSM carrier to another GSM carrier, but that's about it.

I figured thanks. One more think. If I am going to europe this summer, should I unlock my bold? How does that work. What is the benefit as far as money for using the phone goes?
