Default Syncing 8330 with outlook 2003 using Desktop Manager 4.3

Please Login to Remove!

New to BB - been a user for less than a week. Trying to sync appointments, contacts and tasks from Curve 8330 with Outlook 2003. Initially this worked, but after the initial sync, both BB and Outlook calendars begin to show multiple events and DM wanted to delete or add events for no apparent reason.

I uninstalled DM 4.3 and then reinstalled it. Tried to sync calendar again, but now nothing. It starts as if it is going to work, but suddenly closes without any reason why.

Not sure how to proceed. I thought about just using Yahoo Mobile, but I would not be able to have access to my tasks like I do with Outlook. Suggestions/Advice?

What OS are you using on your PC?

DM 4.3 is known to be a bit unstable. Delete the calendar data on the BB and try either DM 4.2 SP 2/SP3 or 4.5 or 4.6

I have DM 4.6 installed on my girlfriends computer and she sync's with outlook 2003 and has no problems with it on her curve. Give 4.6 a try.

Thanks for the assistance. My OS is XP.

I'm downloading v4.6 and installing it. I downloaded the following version:

Desktop Manager 4.6.0 B23 English - With Media Manager

Do I need to download any additional software beyond this to sync with the 8330?

ADDITIONAL NOTE: After downloading v4.6 and syncing with the blackberry, I get the following:

"Connector specific error."

The only option I have is to click OK and then the sync process stops. It successfully synced my contacts, but not tasks or calendar events.

When I looked at the sync log, I see the following:

Internal Error #4238
Translation Canceled!

How can I resolve this?

By no means am I qualified to provide serious technical input but from what I have read - very often there will be a corrupted picture file within the Outlook program.

Until someone with ability skill and more knowledge steps in it is something you may want to keep in mind. You can delete the pictures from your outlook contacts - then re-add them later?

Also if you are syncing everything at once - Contacts, Calender, Notes, etc...you may consider doing them separately - especially the Notes.

Before you trying any of these - I would reboot my computer and do a battery pull on the 'berry then connect to the PC and DM fresh.

Again hopefully someone who is a little more technically savvy in the world of Blackberry's than me will step in offer you more assistance?

I suggest you do a search for "Connector specific error".

Here is one solution I found:

Solution (provided that your desktop calendar application is fully up to day, if not you may loose the unsynced info)

- In the Desktop Manager, Go to the "Backup and Restore" --> Advanced
- In the right column, select the "Calendar" database and clear it.
- The sync should work

As Dubdub indicated - I was really curious about this particular issue also and did a little googling myself and came across this page with some pretty good info you might wanna check out:

Thumbs up

Alas! We have hit pay dirt (or gold).

I went into the Backup and Restore and selected Advanced. I cleared out both Calendar and Task information and began syncing in the following sequence:

1. I synced all calendar events.
2. I synced all tasks
3. I then synced Address Book and MemoPad.

Everything worked so I added a couple of task items in Outlook and did a re-sync. I also added some items in my Outlook calendar and they also synced with the BB on the next sync.

I also added an item directly into the BB and then did another sync. It seems to be working now.

Much thanks for the guidance. Without it, I would likely still be wandering the BB wilderness.

Very cool

I am glad you can get back to playing with the blackberry now!

I also appreciate you coming back with the step by step instructions on your solution so I could learn a little more - that is always very helpful...Thanks

Default syncing 8330 to outlook - calendar problems

I'm new to this site. Have had my BB 8330 for 3 months - no problem syncing until 3 days ago, then all of a sudden, new items entered into BB will not sync with Outlook 2003. Also DM continues to show the same 52 items to sync with BB. If I do this, they are not duplicated in BB. Tasks, memos, and address book seem to be working both ways. I have tried just about every suggestion I have seen with no luck and am ready to tear my hair out!!! I followed the thread of runningj as my problems seem to be the same. I unintsalled DM 4.3 and installed DM 4.6 and am still having the same problems. Can anybody please help me?

Interesting, the BlackBerry Desktop Manager doesn't see any changes at all on the BlackBerry or Outlook?

And the sync is configured bi-directional? Maybe try and reconfigure the sync to send everything from the BlackBerry to Outlook instead of two-way sync.

DM just keeps showing the last 52 items I entered in when sync was working both ways. Changed sync from two way to one-way from BB to Outlook Calendar. Wouldn't finish syncing - got booted out. Any other suggestions??

Does it give an error message or does the sync just stop?

I had a problem with Sync halting during processing of address book entries. (I've also used the Google Sync tool, and I've been a little uncomfortable with it...)

Ran scanpst on the Outlook 2003 .pst file.
Went to the Advanced section of Blackberry Desktop Backup - backed up all address book, backed up all calendar, cleared both address book & calendar, then restored both.

Sync started running with no issues (and it seemed to be faster as well).

Scanpst will rule out any outlook issue.

Just do a search for "scanpst.exe", to find your pst file do a search for "*.pst" that will bring up all your pst files. Typically a pst file that is larger then 1.6-1.8 GB tend to corrupt themselves more often.

So if your .pst is that large I would clean it up or create a new .pst file and transfer your old stuff into the new one.
