Default No EDGE for 8100 @ T-Mobile??

Please Login to Remove!

Check out the T-Mobile web site. EDGE for the 8100 is not listed on any of the pages I looked at. EDGE is listed all over the place for the 8700, so I must assume this is omission by commission. No EDGE??

Not to belabor the point but, yes, the 8100 is EDGE capable per RIM. However, even the RIM website has an asterisk next to its EDGE indication for the 8100 stating that its up to the carrier to provide it. TMO doesn't say it does, at least on their website. So come next Tuesday, before I walk out the door with one, I will certainly light it up and check for an an an EDGE signal.

It would suck if the 8100 didn't have EDGE, but is EDGE really that good? It kind of blows in comparison to EVDO...

EVDO or EDGE is a must for a bb device!

Does T-Mobile have any plans for a high speed network? Sprint and Verizon have EV-DO, which kicks major butt. EDGE is better than anything we had before but it's not available in all areas and it's still way slower than EV-DO.

Problem is that Tmo doesn't have the available spectrum bandwidth yet to support 3G signal.

However by the beginning of this upcoming week and the results of the AWS auction come in that will most likely change, as last I checked Tmo was higest bidder for the major regional market licences.

Tmobile wants 3g more then you know, considering Tmo prides itself on having the easiest and largest international roaming, they are going to want their foreign customers to be able to roam 3g in america as well. (If they actually get a frequency in the auction that is compatible with current european equipment is hard to say atm) But none the less, I am expecting Tmo to have 3g deployed 2nd quarter of '07, this is just a hypothesis by a tech and my opinion and views do not represent those of T-Mobile, or Deutch Telekom.

Hey Ninjatek, your sig says you're waiting until the 18th for your Pearl. Gotta change it to the 12th!
