First, I must apoligize for my newbe question, but I just started this job, and got handed the BES. It's version 4.1.2, and my predecessor apparently didn't use best practices. He had apparently used the service account for administrative work. Now, no one here knows the password, so we are locked out of the service manager, as well as any of the databases. Since you need access to the server manager to reset the service account password so you don't break the connection, you can see my dilemma. Does anyone have any idea how to do this password reset?

Hopefully he installed it with BESAdmin account on a seperate box.
If so this should work

reset the BESAdmin password in AD
Login to BES with BESAdmin account


If the account you login with is an administrator on the local machine, you
can use the osql command line tool to execute the sp_password stored
procedure:

osql -E -Q "EXEC sp_password @new='newpassword', @loginame = 'sa'"

That's not a spelling mistake in loginame. Apperently long, long ago when
the sp_password procedure was created bytes were really expensive and
someone decided to save some on that extra n.

Then in services change all BES servies passwords to new one that use BESAdmin
In server configuration reenter SQL login with new password.
Then restart BES services or whole server.
