Default moving from 8820 to 9000 (Bold)

anyone made the transition from a 8820 to a 9000 ?

my service provider is sending a new 9000 device and told me simply to run the latest RIM desktop (currently 5.0.1) software to make the changeover, saving mail and contacts to the new device - anyone done this?

I was also told (service provider rep) to keep my 8820 as a "spare" and my understanding is that if anything happens to the 9000, I would simply insert chip from 9000 into 8820 and it would work at least as a backup phone.

is it really that simple? anything else to be aware of or nice surprises ahead?

what does the 9000 enable that I could not do with my 8820 ?

thanks for any tips and info

Hi,

It actually is that simple. You can switch Simcard from BOLD to 8820 and re-register the devices PIN.

I came from 8100>8300>8310>8320>9000> to 9700 and can clearly tell you that the 9000 is the pioneer and work horse of them all. You can't never go wrong going through the 9000 at somepoint in your life. Go for it, great upgrade guaranteed.

P.S. Size MIGHT be an issue at first but them, it'll grow on you and you will miss the keyboard if you upgrade from bold to anything else, the BOLD has a unique screen and keyboard.
