Default Bad battery / device???

Please Login to Remove!

So it looks like I've had my fair sharte of mishaps with the PB.

I'm an optomist though and I don't even need a tablet... it's a work device.

BUT I've had some troublesome battery life recently and am wondering if anyone would like to comment.

The recent events have been where my battery is around 40% and all of a sudden I'm told it is at 0%. It still works for a few hours after, so it is like the OS isn't reading it right.

Last night it was at about 40-ish and I soft powered it (power button on top) and this morning (maybe 12 hours later) it was completely dead.

I've not had it plugged in since about 11am with the provided wall charger and the battery life is at 38%. Almost 5 hours for a 40% charge.

WiFi has been on and I've used it very lightly (maybe 10 minutes) all day.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Should I consider it normal?

Letting a lithium battery run compeltey down several times can damage it.

I would try a NEW OEM battery and see if that fixes the problem.

PlayBook batteries can't be replaced.

I've never actually let it run down to 0% (which is actually a reseve number it isn't completey drained then)

I just powered it off, turned it on 15 minutes later and the 38% charge it had is now back to 0%..... UGH

Powering off and leaving plugged into the wall charger is OK right?

The PlayBook won't charge when powered off. Keep it turned on and plug it in to charge.

Thanks for the confirmation...

It is looking like accepting the video chat agreement really did fix it. I'm at 58% and have only been charging for an hour.

Man that's a nasty bug.

Very odd indeed.... as of this AM turning the PB on (power button 'off' last night) I'm at 73% battery.

Looking much better than the past few days.

I never turn mine off. It goes into sleep mode after a certain time of no use. You can adjust that in the settings. I don't see any reason to turn it off. I've noticed my battery charge time seems less now than the first few days after I got it.

Sounds like it. Either hold out for OS update and see what happens, or return it for exhange or warranty service, whatever is the case....or force an OS reinstall and see what that does. I would try the forced OS reinstall.

UPDATE:

I finally got the PB to come back. it was back at 35%, and I used it all night until the battery actually wore out.

I fell asleep on the couch and woke at 4:30am, I plugged it in to my computer (plugged into a USB 3.0 port with extra power output for charging batteries)

The playbook is at 100% this morning. Hopefully my running it to a true 0%, then charging it will have reset the 'meter' and it's back to normal.

I'll try running it most of the day to see.

My bigger concern is in the future if this happens, will it go back, or will it truly be messed up.

1 year warranty, I can wait. If anyting Mike L will be at my work in the next couple of months and I'll ask for a new one ;)

Another Update;

As of this morning I was 100% charged, everything looking good most of the day. I put the PB into standby (press the power button?) and maybe 30 minutes later when I got home, it dinged.... battery 0%.

Did a power off and power on, now it's 70%.

This is a perplexing issue, I'm glad I'm technicaly inclined and don't rely on the device, but I'd love to know what's going on... I honestly barely use the device too, so it's not a misuse or overuse case.

Once again...

fully charged yesterday, battery down to around 75-80% and all of a sudden it reports 0%

I pressed the top power button, threw it in my bag and didnt touch it until this morning.

When I woke it up this morning it was at 54% and now again reported 0%

Even when it reports 0% it works for hours on end.... This must be some kind of flaw in the OS with battery level reporting... I can't be the only one with these issues (Battery level repoting and the BBID thing)

Got my PB along with 2 others (1 other 16GB and 2 32GB) and so far as I know those users have no problems...

I am still curious if a forced OS re-install with Desktop Manager would fix things. But fingers crossed the next OS upgrade shakes something loose.

I know I said I wouldn't do it but I've wiped the device.

I have the battery at 100% charging from the wall charger.

Right now at about 4:15pm, I am going to unplug the charger and see what happens by the end of the work day at 5.

I have Wi-Fi on, and Bluetooth on (no bridge configured yet)

We'll see what happens.

This time it was, previously there had been some full wipe and reloads, never saw a difference between the two, always had the issues no matter which wipe I did.

One time I even got it to do a bricked device reload, same problems.

Last night I did a power off, and now this morning it won't turn on.

Red light flasing... 1...2... 3.4

Too annoying.... Maybe I'll give it one more chance with a full and complete wipe. after that it's going in the garbage.

Oh and right now it's going between powering on, (solid red light) and off.

I'm currently plugged into my PC which the USB port has additional power going to it for battery charging... After it powered off and on about 8 times, It is now booting.

.... After being powered OFF for 12 hours and having had an 80% battery, it's now dead this morning.
