Verizon phones that also use GSM DO USE SIM CARDS.

The 8830 World phone has a SIM card.
The Storm will have a SIM card.

One factor left out of this debate is the issue of Service Books. Since neither AT&T nor T-Mobile are going to sell 95xx phones (at least initially) they won't have all of the proper Service Books. That may limit functionality, right?

I didn't think of that, but you have a point. For one thing I bet GPS would be unavailable on anything but Vzn. Personally I doubt 3g will work either in the US but that remains to be seen I guess. Somebody will get an unlocked one from Europe and roll the dice. The Vzn models won't work on ATT I'm pretty sure.

If I get the Verizon Storm, with VZ service and have a Tmo SIM card with another line on it (and the phone is unlocked), will I be able to receive calls from both numbers, or only the one that is activated with the GSM-CDMA switch?

hey guys,

im from the UK, thinking about getting a blackberry storm, preferable unlocked, but i'm not too sure which one to go for, its all confusing for me, been reading this and still left abit puzzled, will i need the CDMA or GSM for UK O2 network to access o2 3G etc.

or will it not make a difference for me? also does anyone know if these are going to be shipped from the factory to vodafone unlocked? *fingers crossed*

cheers guys.

Rogers? Will the storm be released or is it only Telus and Bell that get the new device? Is the only route for Rogers customers....buying an unlocked device? Anyone have any advice on this?

Rogers is not getting the storm. You can get a Vodafone Storm, which is GSM, unlock it and use it on the Rogers network. The only thing is it will only receive Edge data, not 3G.

I'm also confused. I found this on T-Mobile's website in the Samsung Behold description:
"T-Mobile’s high-speed 3G data network delivers the ultimate mobile Web experience in several metropolitan areas"

I thought T-Mobile didn't have 3g, only the EDGE?
Is it only available in certain coverage areas?

Actually not correct the 9530 is a CDMA/GSM hybrid so technically its nt solely for CDMA or solely for GSM.....

The 9500 named the blackberry thunder should be coming soon and is GSM only for use on T-mobile and AT&T.

Final answer should be ?? That the Verizon Storm can be unlocked and work on At&T and T-mobile but only on their (edge) networks and NOT 3g. Is this for sure an answer, or still under "investigation"?

It's going to be Quad Band alright... 2 bands CDMA and 2 bands Euro/Asia GSM... just like the 8830, which is GSM incompatible in North America.

wrong, the 9500 will be the version for vodafone. big red (vodafon/verizon) have an exclusive contract for the 9500/9530 for their respective parts of the world. the contract is at least a year or 2 if not till eol. rim is working on another touchscreen "super phone" to match or beat devices like the htc touch HD. that will most likely be GSM.

Unlocking the verizon storm to work for att or t-mobile should be a breeze, considering that att will provide service books, will it work on att with service books? Is it really quad band or not???
