Default 8330 system wiped clean twice, still text problems

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
I was having delays sending texts. The phone was working fine, then there were delays. A minute or to to send a text, same to receive and review a text. I phoned tech support, they said to have the system wiped and cleaned, and restored. I brought it to a Sprint store, they did it, reloaded my contact info, and nothing changed. Tried the same thing again yesterday with a replacement phone Sprint sent me and the same thing is happening. All other apps are running fine. But something is wrong with texts. The screen will also half white out at times when sending a text. So my originial phone was having the issues, then when the next curve was set up, the same thing. I took the memory card out thinking maybe that was doing something?? I don't have any additional apps on the phone that I think would cause a problem. But I'm thinking if two phones are doing the same thing, it has to somehow be what I have on the phone, my personal info. I don't think the Sprint techs will be willing to help. I thought of upgrading the phone to something different but...I love the curve when it's working appropriately. And if I have my information changed over to a new model, what's to prevent the same issue?
I really don't know where to turn at this point....I text quite a bit throughout the day, but it's so delayed now, it's too frustrating to use.

Any help would be so much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

Is this happening to one contact or more?

Try replying to a text, but before you send it, press the Menu Key and select Remove History. See if that helps.

Welcome - two questions:

- what version of the handheld OS is on the 8330 (Options / About will tell you)
- how much free memory is on the 8330 (Options / Status for that).

Thanks.

jsconyers .... That helped a ton!! The history is set to saving 7 msgs, it's what the phone was defaulted to. Should I just lower it to little to nothing? I've had this phone for a year now and had never experienced a slowness to it. It does happen to all my contacts, but the one I just sent to, I send the most texts to. No delay or whiting out of the screen.

NJBlackBerry... v 4.5.0.186 hoping that is the right info, with 39608435 bytes free

I would try lowering it to maybe 2 or 3. I had the same issue before with contacts that I SMS'd a lot. That helped clear it up for me. On OS 5.0, with threaded SMS, this is no longer an issue.

Well, I changed it down to 2, and now it's sluggish again, although not as bad as before. Any recommendation for a BB that has the threaded SMS? I text a lot, personal and work, and it's frustrating when it lags going back and forth with a contact.

I appreciate your help very much!

It depends on your preference. You could look at the Storm 1 or 2, if you like touchscreen devices. You could look at the 8350 or the Tour. The Tour2 is to be released later this year. All of those devices can run 5.0.

If your Curve isn't too old, you could just upgrade it to OS 5.0.

What do you mean by this? Too old? It doesn't matter how old the 8330 is. Any 8330 can be upgraded to 5.0. The 8300, 8310,8320, and 8330m cannot be upgraded to 5.0.

Okay, so an upgrade is a little too quirky for texts on the 8330 (I read the other post). I'm only having one delay now with one contact that I text the most each day.

I now have texts to save set to 1.

Not sure if there's anything in the address book I could update or change or??? I have Sprint, my contact has Verizon. Although I have other Verizon contacts, no delay with them, just the one contact...and never had issues before with this contact or any. I really would like to keep this phone. I wouldn't mind waiting for the Tour 2 but I will have pulled my hair out by then. And the 8350 seems nice, but I'll be locked into it for a year if I get that now.

Does the threaded messaging eliminate all delays no matter who the contacts carriers are with?
