1. All 83xx device models support video recording when OS 4.5 or greater is installed.

2. Only the 8330 has had OS 5.0 officially released. You can see that by reviewing the Sticky Threads at the top of this 8300 section.

Hi JS,

I saw the sticky actually before posting this. But it only had details about the update of OS and with a reply that it was stable. Hence i posted this. Actually i visited the blackberry site and it says that the entire BB 8300 series doesnt support video.

Any idea if i buy one now what OS it will come with ? I also saw the detailed specs on the site which never mentioned what OS is carried on each fone by default. Are they all upgradable. Sorry im a complete newbie to BB so kindly excuse the naive questions.

Thanks

PS : I dont think i can use 8330, it looks like its a cdma phone. Im looking for a GSM phone.

All of them should come with 4.5 at this point. And 4.5 does support video recording. You can easily upgrade the OS of a BlackBerry.

You're correct about the 8330.

So the entire video recording thing is only an OS feature is it ?
Why is it that none of the 8300 models on the BB website mention what OS they carry i really dont know.

The bottomline is that if i buy an 8300 and if it comes with no video recording, i can load OS 5 and get the video recording to work i hope ?

The 8300 models on the BlackBerry website probably only reflect the feature set when the device was released. It may not be updated to reflect new feature sets that software upgrades bring.

Yes, if you get a 8300/8310/8320, you can load OS4.5 , not OS5. OS5 is only for 8330 which is a cdma phone and you mentioned that you're on GSM.

Hi,

Just go off the fone with BB people here and they said the same thing. That its ok to update the 8300s with upto OS 4.5 (which will add video recording). But not to OS 5.0 at least theyve never tried and wouldnt advise it they say.

I wasnt particular about OS 5.0 except that in another thread a post suggested that only 5.0 allows to search for multiple keywords. Like i can search for 2 or more words and all records containing those 2 or more words (irrespective of where those keywords are within the record or in which field) would turn up. The other poster also suggested that the 8300s can be updated to any os. Any BB can be upgraded to any os.

Can you kindly share your opinion ?

Seriously? The question has been answered.

On the 83xx series, you can get video recording with OS version 4.5 and a media card installed with all models.

Only the 8330 can support OS version 5.0.

End of story.

Yes case closed. Thats exactly what i said in my post above also. That i just got off the fone with BB staff and they said you cant update to version 5.0 but ver 4.5 would do the trick and enable video recording.

I was just reffering to another post where someone i think told me that you could update any BB to any os. I only asked if someone could clarify that. I just bought a new palm treo 680 about 4 months ago and it started voice dropouts. Spent 400 usd on that fone. Several addon softwares purchased etc. Now im planing to buy the BB 8300 series but dont want to burn my hands and theres an offer running in my area. Thats why the hurry to clarify some points before i buy. Cant afford to buy something i cant use considering the treo i just wasted.

PS : On a side note, could you plz look at my other simple questions that ive posted in this form and see if you can give me some info and help.

You can update to any OS that's for your device model. For example if you have an 8300, you can update to any 8300 OS. You cannot update to an 8310 OS, or an 8320, 8830, 9500, 9700 etc. It must be for the 8300.

So that means the maximum OS update i can do on a 8300 is OS 4.5 or 4.6 is it ?

Id also really love it if you could help me with the search funtion question thing ive just posted please. About searching for 2 or 3 keywords and finding records which contain all of those words no matter where they are within the record.

4.5 is the latest for the 8300.

Check the sticky at the top of this forum. .

AFAIK, there's no way to search how you want on the BB natively. There may be a third party application that allows this.
