Adding items to calendar
Please Login to Remove!
My wife has the BB 8330, and loves the phone (for the most part) except for the calendar.....
I have a Palm Pre, and she really likes how easily I can add calendar events.
Is there a newer interface for the calendar that will provide a better interface for adding events????

Might try a newer OS, but I don't think that will change anything. You could also look at PocketDat, Agendus for the BB or similar apps.
Check the Aftermarket section or App World.

Yes, I would ask for specifics on what she is looking for and what problems she is having.
I can easily press "L" to go to the Calendar, click on a day, click a time and start typing an appointment, press enter and I'm done.

It just seems like a very "old" style interface for entering appointments.....
Not like my Palm Pre's interface for entering the events......
So its more about the appearance, and what it shows you when you're entering the information......

Yeah. The blackberry calendar doesn't dazzle visually, but it gets the job done. And as MM says, if you disable dial-from-home-screen and use keyboard shortcuts, you can use the calendar very efficiently. But if you want sparkle it won't be for you. But for some the simplicity is a plus.

Most people add their meetings / events through Outlook, and then sync to their BlackBerry. I don't think the Calendar interface was designed for a lot of manual input.

What about users who don't use Outlook?? LOL
I know its a popular email client, but her work doesn't use it......

That's most people NJ knows, maybe.
It's easier for me to use the device instead of Outlook. Calendar, contacts, email (95% of the time) is easier to manage on the device. But maybe that's me.

Regardless of Outlook or not. Most companies use BES which wirelessly syncs the calendar, be it GroupWise, Lotus Notes, or Outlook. Google calendar can sync wirelessly as well.
NJ is saying it's easier to enter the appointments on the PC and sync to the device. I believe he is correct is saying that most people do it this way. Not all do, as Ira stated.

I can appreciate that some people may want to update their calendars on the computer (I do for my Palm every once in a while since I can sync with Gmail/calendar).
Since she doesn't use her BB for work, its a personal phone, she's not going to be using BES.
I just would have thought that BB would have updated their appearance for some of their applications to make them look and feel a little more modern......

My family doesn't use BES either... Or work either. We use Outlook because, with syncing, we are able to keep a backup of the data.. Very helpful for when a BlackBerry gets dropped or damaged.

That's where we differ Neither of us like the iPhone.....
Since that seems to be the overall theme I'm hearing here (basically go away, BB is what is is...) I guess its not the phone for her....
Plus, if its just for backup, the newer phones these days tend to back up themselves, either to your computer or to a online storage system......

It boils down to what is important to you (or, your wife in this case).
Blackberry's are different and they really do service a different kind of user, despite the addition of consumer-oriented features.
You have to decide your must-haves and pick the device that best delivers. There are plenty of choices in the marketplace. The blackberry may not be what's best for you. There is not best device; only what's best for you.
