Default Strange policy on my 8300

Please Login to Remove!

I seem to be having a strange problem with my 8300. I just bought it brand new and unlocked (t-mobile germany handset), and it does not give me any option to add BIS mail. Even during the setup wizard, it only gave me an option for enterprise activation.

To make matters worse, it doesn't register with the blackberry data service at all, even though the same SIM, when put in my 8700g, is able to get blackberry services instantly (uppercase EDGE). Also, when I go to HRT registration and try and register the handset, it seems to be sending the message but nothing happens. Tried battery pulls etc. to no avail.

So then I went to my current BIS page and tried to change the device from there, but it said that this is not a valid service provider. I then went to the t-mobile germany BIS page to try and setup the handset from scratch over there and that too gave me a similar error.

There is also no IT policy in the handset in options / general security, though firewall does have a padlock next to it.

Can anyone please help me with this? I would be very grateful.

Hey ashish, where did you buy the phone brand new and unlocked?

I don't know of many carrier retailers who sell brand new devices unlocked.

I would contact your carrier. Are there any service books in Options >Advanced Options >Service Book?

I spoke to my carrier, Vodafone. Their BB technical support said that even though my device is unlocked, the data portion is still network locked.

I went to SIM in advanced settings and checked the status there using MEPD, and everything is disabled.

Well, you should be able to change devices with the PIN and IMEI at your BIS site for the account. Usually it might say that PIN is in use elsewhere, but I have not seen that error about valid service provider.

The previous owner likely still has the pin registered to an email account. The pin needs to be released by the previous owner/carrier. This is one of the problems with used Blackberrys that aren't deactivated properly.

This Blackberry is registered with a different service provider. Please re-register this Blackberry and verify the URL matches the one provided by your service provider.

I will probably have to call t-mobile germany to have this done. Its gonna be interesting since I don't speak a word of German.

Sometimes your carrier can do it, too. You just have to know how to explain it to them.

Yea, as JC said. You likely got sold a not so new remanufactured device, which I was asking that question at first... and wondering about the message from the BIS you being given.

Good luck.
