Thanks guys...I loaded the DTM w/o media manager...and all is well.

Tell me...I have been warned in the past not to load the media manager, but it was never explained to me why not to. Is there any advantage to having the media manager vs. not having it? Sounds dumb...but I really don't know.

Thanks.

Media Manager allows you to use your PC to manage files on device memory as well as the media card. You can move video files from your PC to your BB using it and it will automatically convert them for you (as long as they aren't protected.)

Thanks again, JC. Removed original, and downloaded DTM w/MM...and all is well.

Now...just gotta figure Roxio Media Manager out.

I hope they'll throw out Roxio in the next release and put in something more useful. Roxio is slower than snail on sedatives.

Default Does the Device software on the PC go away?

Do you have to reinstall the device software to your PC after uninstalling the 4.3 desktop manager?

A couple of questions...okay, three.

1. Is it necessary to uninstall DM 4.3?

2. Since DM 4.3 has been working just fine, is there any reason to upgrade to 4.5? I haven't seen any mention of new features in this thread, apart from forthcoming iTunes support, which doesn't interest me.

3. Isn't is a bit odd that RIM asks for my employer and job title as *required fields* before I can download this? I'm on BIS and I don't see why this information is any of their concern.

Has anyone had problems getting DM to download? I know I'm choosing the right one, but it is SO SLOW! It will get about 45% through and then pop up saying that it couldn't be downloaded that the server connection was reset... wtf? I have tried about 5 times to dl it now, all to no avail.

Here's a question.

I have a DM4.3 and a bunch of customizations done to the BB OS as to free up memory on the 8130.

What implications, if any, is there to installing DM 4.5

Ok. I have been banging my head on my desk all morning trying to figure this out.

Setup: BB 8310 (AT & T), OS 4.5 (the vodafone one), Windows XP SP2, BIS without redirector. I have tried in vain to upgrade to Desktop Manager 4.5 released on the official RIM site. I keep getting the dreaded "cannot find system in table file" when I try to configure the sync. I tried as update to DM 4.2, clean install with all data removed, rebooting PC, battery pull on BB, crystals lined up facing east, standing on one foot while singing national anthem, etc. I had the same problem with DM 4.3 and just rolled back to 4.2. This all started when I tried to use app loader and got the similarly dreaded "no additional applications .... " message.

Suggestions are welcome as I'm running out of aspirin.

Just thought I'd ask this question since I've been having this problem for ages...

I'm using an 8800 on Rogers Wireless with WinXP SP2 and Desktop Manager 4.5 (latest one just released) with media manager. When I go to install it, it never ever installs the Media Manager -- never shows up. Anyone have any clues to get this thing to show up? Last time I could manipulate my BB's device memory was so many versions ago (before Roxio came along).

Any help would be appreciated

Ty

I had the exact same issue...here's what I did...

Launch the executable again and wait for the installer to extract...do not click anything else to proceed with the install.
Go to c:\documents and setting\username\local settings\temp
The last folder that was created will contain the full DM installer and Media Manager
Copy the SR_MM to another location. This contains the Media Manager.
Cancel out of the DM installation
Run Setup.exe to launch the Media Manager installer.

**If you get a message saying you do not have full access, hold down the Shift key and right-click setup.exe and select run as...put in the local administrator password and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps!

OK! I solved my own problem!

There is a BB Technical Knowledge Center Article that addresses this problem. Here's what I did:

1. Uninstall DM 4.2
2. Install DM 4.5 including allowing system to reboot
3. Follow instructions in this article exactly http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/searc...00%20151124755

And it synced!

Exclamation

I've installed DM 4.5 but the Roxio manager keeps crapping out when I use it.
Stick to the DM 4.5 without the media manager imo.
Besides, windows explorer works just as fast for transferring tunes.

It does, but it doesn't do well converting videos to put on your BB. Also, Windows Explorer can't browse and move files from your BB device memory. Media Manager does a decent job of this.
